Keep Your Best Friends Close
BLOODLESS ~ Book #1As I stepped towards the wretched wire fence I saw a bizarre figure with pale skin. I noticed that there were dark red patches on his blue plaid shirt... Is that... Blood? He almost looked a bit too obvious as his fangs slipped over his bottom lip and his hands started to grow fur. You know what they say? "My best friend, I would lie for, steal for and straight up die for." I couldn't bare to think about what would happen if I lost him.
As I started to sprint towards the figure I thought about how I always wondered if he was a werewolf because he was the fastest boy in my class! I finally thought that there was someone like me. How was I so stupid? He wasn't the only one.
He saw me running towards him and his gaze followed my bony figure. He looked as if he wanted to rip me to shreds. I stopped and looked at him. This wasn't normal. But before I could ask him anything he broke into a sprint, away from me and into the forest behind the fence."LOGAN!" I screamed, "STOP! I JUST WANT TO TALK!"
Logan slowly skidded to a stop and the dust around him caught up. He slowly turned around and took a step towards me.
His black boots made a loud THUMP.
I gulped as the knot in my stomach got bigger and bigger.
I noticed multiple shadows come out from behind him. They looked at him and then me as if they were watching a tennis match.
There was a boy who looked somewhat like a wizard and a girl that I could immediately tell was a human. She had a nasty look on her face.I started to take a step back but, in his most calming voice Logan said, "Don't worry, they won't hurt us. They're good people, fighting our battle on our team."
"We need you," the human girl started, "we need to unite all monsters."
I began to question this... "What...?" I asked, "What the heck do you mean? Also, why me? Why not the smartest wolf in my class, or something? Plus, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! So, if you can, please, explain what the HELL you mean by that!" I would like to call this my *ahem* Biggest Overreaction of The Century. She stared at the ground for a moment and then murmured, "Because of the past." She said it as if I should've known that already. I'm starting to hate this girl.
Then the wizard spoke.
"Hi... This is Matilda and I'm Edward. It's... Nice to meet you. Um, if you don't mind me asking... What's your name?" Edward asked as if I was the dumbest person ever to live. He seemed annoying. I could never imagine relying on someone as pathetic as him. But, since I'm so polite and all I replied.
"I'm Olivia." I said with a glare, and then trudged away.
Logan looked a bit bewildered but then came running after me. I saw him approaching so I quickly turned into a wolf, my haunting screams of pain turning into howls that send chills down your spine. I looked at Logan as if to say "Stop following me. I'm not doing it." He seemed to get my message because he nodded in shame and walked back to Matilda and Edward while whispering urgently to them. I still think to this day that I was a little hard on them but it was for a good reason.
I went back to the fence and started pacing back and forth. I shouldn't of even been out there. Class had already started and if I went in late without a note from my mum my teacher would kill me! I decided to ditch school completely. What was there to lose? I was completely overwhelmed and confused, was late to class, and I needed to know answers. Is there going to be another war? There hasn't been a war since the SkyBreak. That was when the sky released demon powers to those worthy so they could take over all of the monster's land and enslave them. We all used them to survive in the war, we were forced to kill, not enslave. The monsters never believed that we wanted peace, so we started war. And, I was obviously worthy of having demon powers, so I was forced to fight. Just like all the others... I could never un-see those dead bodies. I was only nine...
That's it.
I walked back to Logan, Matilda and Edward. They all looked at me and Matilda smirked at me with that annoying face she had.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Matilda snarled, she looked as if she was going to kill me.
"A girl who isn't particularly fond of human girls." I snapped back. I thanked me and my sharp tongue on that one.
"Whatever." Matilda said, blatantly defeated.
She stomped back to Edward, who was lazily leaning against a tree next to Logan. The sun was setting into the distance and now he looked mysteriously angry against the pink sky. I had a growing sense of fear towards him.
"What do you want Olivia?" Logan said as he rolled his eyes.
"Well... I, um," I've never felt this nervous about speaking to him before, we are best friends after all, "I want to help now!" I blurted out. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Why did I say it like the fool I was? Noticing the way that Logan was looking at me, I realised I should clarify what I just said. "I really do! It was just I had to get to class and then it already started and..." I trailed off.
"Okay. You can help. Just don't get in the way of anything. Here's the plan."
You know what else they say? Keep your best friends close, but your enemies closer.
