Perhapas it was a dream. I needed to pinch myself, but I couldn't wake up; and I didn't want to. Evie and I were little again, 10 and 9. We were born only a few months apart, my mom told us that that was why we were so incredibly close. Evie and I rarely fought, but in this dream, was the fight only a few months before she walked out that front door 8 years ago.

She was screaming at me for making a small tear in her favorite princess blanket. I told her that it was just a stupid blanket, and she roared. Fire started to gleam in her bright blue eyes, and she gave me a hard stare. She was silent for a second, but I had never heard her scream louder.

Suddenly, my feet weren't on the floor anymore. I was staring up at the blue sky above me, hovering only inches off the green grass. Evie didn't take her gaze off me. I tried to scream for her to let me down, but I couldn't spit it out. The only thing that came from my mouth was silence.

Her mind was somehow holding me prisoner, and her hands were wrapped around my neck, even though she hadn't even layed a finger on my body. Evie had crazy episodes with her powers sometimes, but this was by far the worst.

Tears flew from my eyes and crashed onto the ground that was just out of my reach. I could feel all the air escaping from my lungs, my vision started to blur.

"EVIE!! LET HIM DOWN!! Please babygirl, its Momma, we don't want to hurt you. Please let him down Evie." my mom screamed as she put her hand on Evie's shoulder. Evie's firey eyes turned to my mother, and they softened, and turned back into the beautiful icey blue eyes of hers.

She let out a small wimper, and suddenly I was soaring across the backyard and into the side of the house. I had been knocked out a couple of seconds later, but I remember Evie running down the street. It took Dad two days to find her, behind the large rock at our school. Dad said she was staring ahead and wouldn't answer him when he tried to sooth her and tell her that I was okay. And I was okay. I had to go to the hospital to get my head and neck checked out, but the only thing wrong was the large scar around my neck.

The docter couldn't explain it, and pressured mom to tell him what happened. But she kept Evie's secret, she wouldn't sell her out. I was astonished when Evie came home. She didn't talk to anyone, not even me. I repeated that I was fine and she didn't know what she was doing.

She didn't get over what happened for 2 whole months.

When these episodes happened, Evie didn't control her own mind. When she got mad, her eyes would turn into fire and she would do something that scared us. She'd change. We didn't know how to fix her, but we couldn't tell anyone or they would take her away, but it looks like it's too late for that.

I awoke with sweat beading on my forehead, and I was panting uncontrollably. These panic attacks happened often, ever since our fight. But today was the first day of my junior year, and Evie would be a senior. She should be a senior. I shook my head, and turned off my beeping alarm clock.

I quickly grabbed the shirt on my floor and wiped off the sweat on my face and chest. It didn't matter anyways, the shirt needed to be washed.

My phone flashed on and played a cute little tune that Annie had picked out for her contact everytime she contacted me. "Pick me up in 15. See you soon love" Her text read. I half smiled and sent her a quick "ok babe" back. First days of school weren't my thing so while Annie was all about dressing up, I just threw on some black joggers and a tshirt from the salty dog cafe.

My normally sleek black hair was a mop of disaster this morning, but it was too long to comb back. It would make me look like a really long haired Casanova, and that just doesn't appeal to my taste. I brushed it a bit and stared myself in the mirror.

If it weren't for the few months in between us, I would think Evie and I were twins. With the shiny black hair, bright blue eyes, the freckles on every inch of our faces, and the tall lean bodies, we're almost identical. Other than the time gap and the bouncy curls in her hair.

Sighing, I exited our - my, bathroom. The scent of blueberry waffles filled the hall, as I ran down the stairs. Anything blueberry excited me, and my mom rarely made us food. She normally stayed in bed.

She had her good days, like today, when she would be progressive and get out of the house, or her bad days. The bad days were when all the curtains would be drawn and her bedroom or the couch would be the only places she would go. She hasnt gotten over Evie, like the rest of us. But she is much, much worse.

"Goodmorning sunshine, how many waffles?" She smiled at me and winked. I smiled back and answered "They smell delicious mom, but I have to pick up Annie soon. I'm Sorry."

Her smiled fell from her face for a split second, and a fake one took its place. "Ok hun." She replied, her back turned to me now. I let out a soft sigh. "3 please." Her shoulders raised as she plopped three large waffles onto my yellow glass plate. I grinned at her and devoured the waffles in seconds. I was hungry.

She laughed and started to prepare more for my father once he woke up. "Bye mom, I love you." I kissed her on the cheek and grabbed my bag. "Be safe Ry. Love you too" She smiled again and started to hum a soft song that her and my dad were fond of.

I started to turn the nob on the door and hesitated. This happens almost every time I touch this door; it's almost like Evie is trying to communicate to me. I know she's not, I'm not oblivious. She's gone.

The car ride to the cemetary is short, it's only a few blocks down from our little home. I walk up the cracked stone stairs, fraying from the harsh weather in our town, and over the the stone under the maple tree. Under the tree lies a small gravestone that reads "Here is the memorial of Evie Johnson. May she rest in peace".

When Eve walked out the door, my family opened the door back up expecting to still see her there with the people who had called for her. But they weren't there. How could someone disapear so fast? There were at least 6 different men, and they had arrived in a car, so how did everything vanish in the matter of seconds? Mom and Dad had called the police to search for her. 3 years later, they gave up on the search and pronounced her dead, because a young girl cannot simply  just "dissapear".

"I miss you Eve. I hope you can graduate up in heaven this year sis." I kissed the stone that didn't hold a body underneath, for it hasn't been found yet. And with that, I left for Annie's, no longer did tear fall down my face. Evie had stolen all those when she died.

Annie lived in a small townhouse with her best friend. She was sitting on the stairs, holding onto the bright blue railing I had helped paint with her. When she saw my car pull up in the driveway, she had a confused look on her beautiful face. "I said 10 minutes loser, not 30." She shouted from the stairs.

Shit.

"I'm sorry Annie, I had to visit Eve.. I forgot, I'm really sorry An." I looked down at the ground and moved my feet back and forth on the pavment.

She sighed and walked over to me, pulling me in for a hug. "It'll be okay Ry. You've got to get over her soon babe, shes gone. She wouldn't want you to be upset." I pulled away and looked her straight in the eyes. She was right, God how I loved this girl.

She had helped me through everything these past 4 years, and always understood me. But I wasn't honest enough to her, and I wish that I could be. Annie only knows half the story, like the rest of the town. They think that someone showed up at our doorstep and snatched my little sister away from us. They don't know she has powers. And they don't know that she went to her death sentance willingly.

"I love you Annie." I planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "Hey, no no no." She kissed me hard on the lips, playfull even. "Now that's what I'm talking about."

She smirked and I laughed. I kissed her quickly on the lips one more time before getting into the car. Westville High, here we come.
