Adventure Time

Perhaps high expectations were a thing to avoid when you aren't sure of your life anymore.

"If you're not going to buy anything then beat it!" The stall owner yelled. The boy grumbled walking toward me instead.

"Hey you!" He yelled now running towards me. I looked around trying to find someone who's attention was his.

"Me?" I asked. He nodded holding his hand out expectantly.

"You look like a beautiful maiden! Are you an elf?" He questioned examining me.

"A-An elf? What gives you the idea?"

He looked at me with bewilderment.

"You have pointed ears. It's kinda obvious with that. Plus, what human has blue hair." He smiled.

He wasn't necessarily trying to pick a fight. He was genuinely being honest. Though that fact that he pointed out my ears made my hand instinctively reach up to feel them. Without a doubt, they came to a point at the top.

What is this... am I dreaming?

"I'm not an elf. I'm human." I protested in denial.

"Then a half-elf?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. He was far too inquisitive to be from this strange place, so we had to be in a similar situation.

"Sure. Call me what you want."

He smiled triumphantly. "Well it occurs to me that I don't know your name Miss Half-Elf."

"Faye."

He stared at me as if waiting.

"Faye what?"

"Just Faye." I stated. He nodded in dismissal before grabbing my wrist and walking down the street once more.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked.

"On an adventure! Oh, my name is Subaru Natsuki by the way."

I nodded my head trying to keep up with him. Subaru was kind and honest, but I could feel something strange about him. The way he presented himself infront of people. It was as if he believed everything going on around us was truly happening.

I followed him around for what felt like hours. Through every unfortunate event. Finally we just sat on the steps to an alleyway trying to rest.

The fact that we had nowhere to go dawned on me after a while. A hollow emptiness that soon overwhelmed me. I wanted to find something to hold onto. Something to keep me sane. For all I knew, I'd be trapped in this foreign adventure for the rest of my life.
