KARKAT'S POV

His eyes met his. And everything made sense. Red. Red eyes. Bright red in fact. They peered into Karkat. It felt like Dave could see right through him.

His face was as blank as a slate. But his eyes. They displayed waves and waves of emotions. He could finally read him. For what he was. And what he felt.

He was scared. Shocked. Alone. And he felt it. The pang hitting him like his own emotions.

The red he hated. He absolutely despised about himself. What made him different. And outcast.

A Hero of Time was barring the same scars. The wounds others have inflicted upon him. The bright crimson that has caused them all of there suffering.

Made them one in the same.

The shades, the hiding, the seriousness. All to keep himself hidden. Like he did so himself.

This went through the trolls mind in a matter of seconds. He dropped his shaky hand as the Strider quickly slid the shades back on.

DAVE'S POV

As the troll reached out and grabbed is shades, his safety had been out of reach. And he did the most idiotic thing he could do.

Let his guard down. He stared at the troll. His face consorting with unexplainable emotions. He dropped his hand. Shaking.

He was scaring him away. Just like everyone else.

He quickly slide on his shades. He felt hurt. He didn't know if he could trust him. Betrayed. And it stung like hell. But he kept him from flooding in on his thoughts.

Just another thought to throw in the waste basket that is his mind. Bottle it up. And send it cascading into that raging ocean.

"So what- now you know, what are you going to do about it?"

KARKAT'S POV

He flinched away from his words. As if they just slapped him across the face. It kinda hurt in that way.

The somewhat pained look on Dave's face hurt even more. He had caused this hadn't he. He put a gently hand, different from his gruff nature. And kept it there.

"No-"

"Then what? Im a freak, I get it.. People have been telling me my whole damn life," the Strider almost snapped at him. He looked at him.

And he understood. He knew what it was like. He grimaced.

"No," he said more sternly.

"You may not realize it, but me and you have more in common than you think-" he stated looking down.

"Fuck, your probably the only idiot around here who would understand what it's like,"

He glanced at him, Dave staring at him. Now that he knew he had those underneath those things. He didn't want him to hide them.

But he knew where he stood in this. He'd rather Dave be comfortable than scared half to death.

"What do you mean by that?"

Karkat sighed, taking a deep breath to start his spiel,

"You know what it's like to be alone, to be scared that- that one day someone will find out. That someone will see you who you really are... And you don't like the person you really are. You'd rather- shut them away from the world," he said, speaking on his own regard.

"Have you ever wondered why Im gray while everyone is in color? Why Im the one that types in gray?" He asked. Probably sounding stupid. He knew humans had choice of there colors.

"Isn't it that chromespectrum? The rainbow of blood colors right?"

"Hemospectrum,"

"Whatever,"

He nodded. Tracing a finger on a wringle of Dave's red sleeve. He looked at it for a while, scooting closer to him. He wasn't thinking straight.

It was just comforting in itself to know. That someone out there understands the pain. Even if it's not as serious. They have an idea.

Dave tensed up to his touch, the troll was now hugging the blonde. Pressing his cheek to the outline of the jagged cape on his chest.

"That same red- that red that all you humans have coursing through you. That is my blood color. That bright red- it started it all. And no one would except me. Because..."

"You were different," he finished his sentence. Almost perfectly. He let out an almost soothing exhale. Then the Cancer immediately pulled off of him.

He was invading his personal space. He had already done so. And then starting clinging to him like a GRUB!! He pushed himself away. Aheming in attempts to seem more professional about the situation

Seem more like the leader he was.

"Now- that we've had this discussion. We must have a vow. We can't tell anyone either of our secrets. No matter how tempting the suits of blackmail is right now," he said trying to seem like his normal self.

The Strider scoffed- then giving him a long look. He wondered what it meant.

"Thanks- we should initiate that in the bro code,"

"Bro code?"

"Yeah- don't worry you'll catch on quickly, it's kinda-

"Dave,"

"Yeah?"

"I don't care- it sounds absolutely idiotic,"

"You sound idiotic,"

"You are idiotic,"

And there they went at it again. Karkat laughed and dave chimed in. It was almost as if they didn't have a care in the world for a second.

Then Karkat turned serious, "Yknow- I know we're supposed to be in the next session an a year, and meet john and all of the other humans we sadly have to work with. But what then. What about after we create the new universe?" He asked. Looking down it seemed. Dave shrugged,

"I dont know really- Lalonde needs to learn how to summarize her long ass lecture, like she reads all of those books she reads are like- lore from centuries ago,"

He nodded.

"But Im not sure, The game might put us in our old worlds. Back to relive all the unessisary shit we had already crawled through to get here,"

"I mean Dave, what if I never see you again?" He asked. Speaking his mind. He didn't want to get all soft on him, but it was a serious question. He didn't know what he would do without him. Now that he knew. He would understand.

"No Kitkat- don't say that. Dude Im pretty sure we're going to Tokyo drift into the new session, make that universe and you and me can be bros forever. I mean Im pretty sure we should be immortal this point, that'd be fucking great,"

He nodded,

"Yeah,"

"Bros,"

He wasn't sure how he felt about that derogatory term anymore.

Just Bros...
