It's ok

I wake up and Darren also wakes up. I smile at him.

"You're very comfortable." I say and stretch.

"You can sleep with me whenever you want." He says with a wink and a yawn. I elbow him and I stand up.

Annabel walks in and smiles.

"Ah, the sleeping couple wakes." She says. I blush and I laugh a little.

"Jakes waking up. You can see him now if you want." She says and I simply nod.

Darren waits in the room while I leave and Annabel gets me sorted with health precautions.

"Did they save his arm?" I ask.

"Ask him yourself." She says and opens the door.

I step inside and I walk to the edge of his bed. The chair has moved to the other side where his good arm is and I stand by it. I look over and I see his arm bandaged and I smile.

"Hey." I hear him whisper. I look at him and to see him looking back with life in his eyes makes my eyes water.

"Hey, don't cry." He says and he lifts his arm to my cheek. I sit down and he rubs his thumb over my cheek.

"You're an idiot." I manage to say and I cry and I lay my head down and he strokes my head.

"I know, I know. I'm sorry." He says. After a moment I sit up and I wipe away my tears. I take a deep breath and I smile at him.

"It's ok." I say.

"It's not." He says. "I was so stupid. I promise it won't happen again." He says and I give him a small smile.

"I dreamt of you." He says.

"Yeah? What was it about?" I ask as I remember what Annabel said.

"Ummm, let's see. You broke Darren's nose because he got someone pregnant. That was a pretty cool image." He says and I laugh slightly. "You totally owned the head teacher, had a crush on Darren again and beat up some people for drugs I think." He says and I sit there awkwardly.

"It wasn't just a dream was it?" He asks.

"No, I visited you pretty much every day and told you, I guess you could hear me." I say and I look down.

"So what happened after?" He asks.

"The baby wasn't Darren's, the mum Sam is staying at my aunts house since it's ready for people. Darren's nose healed I haven't seen the head, and the people I beat up dropped out." I say.

"And you and Darren?" He asks.

"It's complicated." I say.

"What do you mean?"

"He likes me, I like him but I'm scared. Last time didn't go that well." I say.

"What I learned from my near death experience is that you can't regret anything. Give it a chance. At least you tried, before this I would have told you to stay away but it wouldn't make you happy. Just be happy." He says I hug him and he hugs me back as much as he can. We stay there for a while and I sit back down.

"Jade?" Annabel asks.

"Yeah?"

"You have to go, visiting time is over." She says and gives me a small smile.

I turn to Jake.

"I'll see you tomorrow." I say and he nods with a smile. I walk out and I take off the mask and stuff.
