Chapter 15: Bug'n the bugs

Rockett's P.O.V.

As we walked out of the Pokémon Center, I felt a cold pre-winter breeze strike my face. I shivered and pulled my thin brown jacket closer to my body. Winter was coming, and I had spent the last few months in Hoenn, where it was warm all year around. So I only had my shorts and hoodie and thin brown fall jacket. I was in no way prepared.

Midnight didn't seem any better. She was shivering in her summer dress, and huddled up to Blue to keep warm.

Silver looked to both of us, "You two have no idea have to dress for winter do you?"

We both shook our heads no.

"Well after the gym, we better get you something warmer, both of you." Blue pointed out. I simply nodded. It was gonna get cold, and I needed something warm if I don't want to freeze to death in the cold.

We went to the gym and inside we found Bug Catchers for the preliminary rounds. Midnight groaned at the sight, and I don't blame her. Dark types are weak to Bug, so this gym will be a pain in the ass for her.

I turned to the raven haired trainer, "Tell you what. I'll help you through the preliminary rounds." I offered.

Midnight's duo toned eyes lit up, "Would you?! Thanks! It'll be a lot less of a pain now. So let's go kick ass!"

We swept through the preliminary rounds easily. She doesn't give herself the credit, but Midnight's pretty strong. She probably could have taken them herself with her Houndoom.

So now we were at Bugsey.

"I am Bugsey. Which of you is the challenger?" He asked.

"Both of us." We answered in unison.

Bugsey raised an eyebrow, "Really? Then a double battle?"

Midnight nodded her head, "Yep!"

Bugsey grinned and sent out a Kakuna and a Syther, "Challenge excepted!"

Midnight took one look at Syther and groaned, "Great... A Syther... Castilia Gym all over again..."

I sent out Haunter. He came out with a dark, menacing cackle. It caused Bugsey's bugs to shiver. Midnight sent out Houndoom, "Smoke, go kick ass!" She exclaimed. Smoke growls and puffed smoke out of her nose.

Battle, begin!

"Syther, X-Scizzor on Houndoom! Kakuna use PoisonSting on Haunter!" Bugsey started off.

I grinned, "Haunter, counter with ShadowBall, and make it deadly."

Haunter cackled evilly again and gathered a shadow ball. He shot it at the poisoned darts and shot them back at Kakuna. The little bug fainted on impact and I laughed. That was far too easy!

Midnight was having problems though. Houndoom was so busy dodging Syther's attacks, that she didn't get a chance TO attack! It was actually kinda funny, but I had to do something.

"Haunter, give Syther a menacing Thunderbolt!" I yelled excited. Haunter's body glowed with a dead yellow light and he laughed darkly before hitting Syther with a Thunderbolt. Syther stopped attacking Smoke and turned towards Haunter, obviously ticked. Haunter pulled at the corners of his mouth and pulled it into a smile and his eyes popped out of his head for his signature silly face. This angered Syther and it swiped at Haunter, but he only floated higher. This continued for quite some time, but at least Midnight managed to take out Medapod. This meant that we could finally take out Syther.

Smoke growled and Midnight yelled, "Use Fire Blast!" Fire Blast?! Wasn't that a little overdone?! Something was wrong here. Midnight's voice had turned dark and she wasn't acting like herself. Her hair fell over her face! So I couldn't see her expression, but I could barely see the evil grin on her face.

Midnight chuckled darkly, "It's time to finish this. Houndoom use FireFang." She wasn't even using her Pokémon's nicknames! That showed that something was definitely wrong. Blue and Silver also noticed and came into the room. Blue went up to Midnight and turned her around to face him. He looked into her eyes and gasped in horror. He let go of her shoulder and started to back away. I went around to see what had startled him so bad, but I didn't get the chance. Her shiny Umbreon popped out and used Hypnosis on her. She passed out on the floor quickly, sound asleep. I looked to Syther to see that Smoke had still followed Midnight's orders and knocked Syther out. It meant we won!

Bugsey gave me both badges so I could give Midnight her's when she woke up.

We went back to the center and she woke up an hour later. Silver was out getting dinner, Blue was researching what had happened to Midnight on the internet, and I was watching her.

Midnight's eyes fluttered open. She looked around, confused, "That was a strange dream..." She looked to me, "What happened?"
