"I will await, dear...
A patient of eternity
My crush..."
Slowly, the tears began to well up.
"A universal still,
No rust.
No dust will ever grow on this frame --"
The tears began to fall. With a shaking intake of breath and shaking fingers, Andy continued on singing and picking the strings on his guitar.
"A million years and I will say your name
I love you more than I can ever scream."
His voice breaking on the last word, and the tears pouring, Andy set his acoustic guitar down slowly on his bed behind him, blinking the blur of tears from his eyes as he stood up, breathing out.
Then he bolted out of his room, out the back door and sprinted far into the woods, all the way into the wide field a quarter of a mile out until the tall, soft grasses that blew in the breeze caught his boot.
Andy hit the ground hard, lying there in the middle of the field by himself, curled up and sobbing. He turned over on his back, trying to calm himself down, trying to take a full breath, but it only resulted in a scream filled with anger, pain, and sadness that pierced the thin and empty air.
It wouldn't be long before his mother and father arrived home from work and would be looking for him, calling his name.
Once Andy had recovered, most of the way for now, he sat up, looking up at the dark sky.
"Why me?" he whispered. "Why me, God? I thought you loved me; that you were going to get me out of this mess. I'm starting to believe you're not even really there. For me at least." Andy looked down, picking at a blade of grass beside him. "What am I doing? Who am I even talking to? Ugh, I'm such an idiot."
Andy stood up, breathing out. He could just see his home at the top of the hill.
So as he stalked up the hill, he murmured the chorus of We Stitch These Wounds under his breath, gritting his teeth in anger as he did so.
What could he even trust anymore?
He'd just have to wait.
