Love Against The Odds (Laurinah)

It's Monday and I'm heading off to go pick Camila up from school since we carpool to school everyday. I parked outside her house and honked twice, letting her know that I was outside. A few minutes later Camila came rushing towards my car and got in "Lo go now before Dinah comes out begging for a ride" she demands. I shook my head "no I'll wait and give her a ride." Camila scowls at me "Lauren fucking go before she comes! Hurry!"

I shook my head and waited for Dinah to come out, which wasn't long "hey can I catch a ride with you guys. I would really hate to be late on my first day" Dinah says, giggling slightly. Aw she's so cute "yeah of course. Hope in!" Dinah sends me a kind smile before getting into the back seat.

"Don't expect this to happen all the time. Lauren is my friend not yours" Camila spat harshly.

In the review mirror the sad look was as clear as day on Dinah's face. I pulled up to a stop light and turned to her "hey you're welcome to catch a ride with me at anytime, ok." She nods shyly before focusing her gaze on her hands. I focused back on the road and ignore Camila's eyes burning into the side of my head, but I choose to ignore her.

"Hey Dinah would you like to meet my friends Ally and Normani" I asked, turning off the car.

Dinah looks at me with shy eyes and gives me a timid nod. I grinned widely "that's great. Come on" I said as I grabbed her hand and walked over to Ally and Normani "hey guys" I greeted "this is Dinah, she's Camila's cousin" I introduced.

Ally was the first to greet Dinah as she pulled the taller girl in for a hug "hi I'm Ally. I'm a hugger" she giggles "hi Ally it's really nice to meet you" Dinah mumbled shyly "and I'm Normani but call me Mani" Normani says as she also hugs Dinah "it's really nice to meet you guys" Dinah says with a wide smile.

As we all got aquatinted with each other Camila came over to us with the ugliest scowl on her face "Dinah don't you have to go get your schedule. Like now" Camila bites. Dinah's smile fell a bit but she just played it off "uh yeah come one of you should me to the office" she asked timidly. I perked up "yeah I'll show you" I said. I said goodbye to Ally, Normani and Camila before walking off with Dinah.

The short work to the office was filed with a comfortable silence "so what classes do you have" I asked, eager to know if we had any classes together. Dinah hands me her schedule and I internally cheered because we share ever class together "well Hansen it looks like you're stuck with me all day." Dinah giggles cutely "that's fine by me. I like be stuck with cute girls all day." She winks as she took back her schedule and left the office. Today is definitely going to be a good day.

"Hey DJ would you like to have lunch with me and Normally" I asked as I walked out of the class room with Dinah.

Dinah scrunches up her eyebrows "Normally" she questions. I nod "yeah it's their ship name since they're always together" I said. Dinah nods understandingly "oh ok" she says "and yes I'll join you for lunch." I smiled as I grabbed her her hand and led us to the cafeteria.

"Hey guys" I greeted as I took my seat next to Dinah.

Both Ally and Normani muttered small 'hellos' "so where's Camila" Ally asks. I rolled my eyes "hanging out with Arianna and the rest of the cheer squad" I said "why?" I shrug "don't know all she said was that she wanted to hang out with them today" I told them. Ally nods while Normani rolls her eyes. Just like me Normani is getting tired of Camila bailing on us to go hangout with the cheerleaders or go flirt with Austin. It's like where being pushed to the side so she can spend more time with people that could honestly care less about her. It sucks but there's really nothing we can do. Camila needs to figure who her real friends are.

As we were talking Arianna came over to us "hey guys" she said with a fake smile plastered on her face "hi Arianna" I replied with same fake smile as her. There was no doubt that us and Arianna weren't friends, anyone with two eyes could see that. We just didn't get along like that and I'm pretty sure that we never would.

"Hey are you Dinah Jane Hansen" she asked.

Dinah nods "yeah I am, what's up?" By the look on Arianna's face I knew she was up to absolutely no good "Mila wanted me to give you something" she says. Dinah's face lit up "ooh what is it?" Before I could say anything Arianna dumped her caramel macchiato all over Dinah's head. Dinah bolted out of the cafeteria with tears running down her face as the whole cafeteria laughed at her.

I pulled my focus from Dinah and turned to Camila who was laughing her ass off "Camila how the fuck can you stand by and watch as your cousin get humiliated by the bitch of the school!? How can you just sit there and let Arianna do that to her" I yelled. Camila just snickers "because like I told you before Lauren I don't like Dinah so I could honestly care less about what happens to her" she said nonchalantly. I shook my head at her "you've changed Camz and not for the better." I gave her one last disappointed gaze before running out of the cafeteria to go find Dinah. I hope she's ok.

After searching every classroom and both bathrooms I eventually found her outside by the football field "hey Dinah" I spoke softly as I approached her "hey Lauren" her voice was horse, which indicated that she was crying. I frowned deep as I pulled her into me and let her cry on my shoulder "it's ok sweetie, just let it out" I cooed.

Dinah's crying finally slowly down as she pulled away from me. Looking into her eyes I could tell that she was broken, hurt by what happened and it killed me seeing her like this. It killed me seeing such a sweet girl hurt and embarrassed for no reason. I just don't understand why Camila would do that to her. I don't understand why she would want to purposely humiliate her cousin, her own blood. It saddens me that Camila, the same girl that I called my best friend, would actually stoop as low as to humiliate her own family. I don't get it.
