After a long tiresome fight against two giant B.O.W.s and J'avos along with how much I have been putting in for this whole day. . .my muscles ached, my stomach growled and my eyelids hung low. I was the living definition of exhausted.

I collapsed on the ground against a wall as we waited for the helicopter to come pick us up. Jake came over and sat down next to me. I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. Silence filled the void between us yet it wasn't anything we weren't used to. Jake and I can stay like this forever if we had to for we have that type of sibling relationship. An understanding bond.

After awhile the sound of footsteps broke the silence. I opened my eyes to see Piers towering over us. "Helicopter should be here soon." he informed, barely glancing my way. I felt a pain spread through my chest as he began to walk away without a second look at me. Did I do something? I questioned myself.

"Hey." Jake spoke and stood to his feet, leaving me on the ground. Piers stopped and turned half way around. "Sherry and I need to finish a job for her employer and Beck can't come with us."

"What?!" I demanded, getting to my feet with new profound energy. I crossed my arms and glowered at my older sibling. "Why can't I come with you?" Jake sighed and pulled me off to the side, away from Piers.

"Beck, I don't want you to get involved because you could get hurt. I. . .I'd feel better if you stayed with him. I have a strong feeling that he won't let you get hurt." he explained. I glanced at Piers. His greenish gray orbs locked with my pale blue ones but I tore mine away quickly. "So, you stay here, keep playing soldier with these jarheads and I'll contact you when we finish the task." anger boiled under my skin.

"How much?"

"What-"

"How much are you being paid? I'm not a little kid Jake, I'm your sister and I know that you would never volunteer for a job. So how much are you being paid?!" I questioned, hands balling into tight fists. Jake wiped his face of all emotions and pulled his lips into a deep frown.

"That doesn't matter. I promised mom I would take care of you and if I have to get BSAA soldiers to babysit you to ensure your safety then that's what I'll do, period." Jake growled. Over head the helicopter came into view and landed in the open area in the short distance. Jake stormed off to join Sherry, leaving me frozen in place.

Piers came up behind me. "Aren't you going with them?" he asked gently. I sighed, glancing at the ground under my feet.

"No, Jake wants me to stay with you guys to 'ensure my safety'." I said, using air quotes with my fingers and deepen my voice to match Jake's. A chuckle emitted from Piers yet he cut it short.

"Why didn't you tell us about him?" he inquired. I knew exactly where Piers was going with this. I turned to him with a sad look.

"I told you I was visiting family. Jake may be a mercenary but he's also family. The only family I got left." I said, turning back to the scene in front of us. Chris was talking to Sherry.

"I already gave the pilot the coordinates."

"Thank you so much for your help." Sherry answered, shaking then buff man's hand in respect. Chris nodded then turned back to Jake.

"Hey. . .hey!" he spoke to gets Jake's attention. The said man turned halfway around to acknowledge Chris. "Have we met?"

"Nah, all you jarheads look the same to me pal, sorry." Jake spoke then climbed on board the helicopter. I rolled my eyes at how idiotic he could be at times. I felt Piers stiffen behind me.

"You gotta be kidding me!" Piers exclaimed angrily, stepping forward. I placed my hand on his chest and thankfully he calmed down in the slightest. I watched as the helicopter took off. At least I know he's alive. I persuaded myself.

"Alright, let's move out!" Chris shouted to all of us. I nodded to Piers and jogged to catch up. We got to an old building and when the guys kicked the doors open a wave of vile air poured out. I covered up my nose with the collar of my jacket. "Alright, spread out. Search this place top and bottom." Chris ordered. We all looked around, some sort of hard, slimy cocoon formations in the shape of people were scattered throughout the room.

"Over here! I'm getting a reading on the other side of this door." Finn called out from the second floor.

"Finn, Piers. . .you're with me. Everyone else keep searching the area. Beck you should stay with them." Chris ordered. I nodded reluctantly, there's no way I would persuade him otherwise. I half smiled at Piers then the three of them disappeared up stairs.

I continued to search the area but when we had finished all we really could do was wait. I went and sat down on one of the stair cases, clutching my side as I did so. Ben seemed to noticed and came over, taking out some medical supplies. "We might have to change your bandages." he informed. I sighed and looked to the others.

"Can you guys turn around?" I asked nicely. They politely obliged and I let Ben change my bandages. My previous ones had a huge blood spot on them but when Ben cleaned my wound he kinda just froze. "What? Please tell me it's not infected." I begged, worse case scenarios popping into my head.

"No, you're fine actually. . .you're doing extraordinarily well. Your wound has healed to half of what it used to be." the medical man explained. My eyes widened in surprise. Well I have really felt it hurt as much lately. I thought to myself. "So. . .you and Piers huh?" he asked, a sly grin on his lips. I heard the others snicker.

"What, no. I don't even think we're friends. If I had to guess I would say. . .allies would be the closest to describe us."

"Allies of the heart~" one of the guys sang childishly. I scoffed and threw a piece of brick at the men. They complained yet kept their backs to us and laughed. The medical BSAA soldier finished wrapping the fresh roll of bandages around my torso, allowing me to lower my shirt.

"Alright you guys can turn back around-" my words were cut off but the nauseating sound of cracking. The type of cracking you would here when a butterfly emerges from a. . .cocoon.
