Natalie must've woke up first because she was already eating when the rest of us got up. My grandma slept a bit longer than usual though. I went to sit next to Natalie as Zia came over.
The one with passed down power, Shall lead the elder and the others. The injured friend must sacrifice, The twins shall lead this passing might. The doubled sister will fear, but fight. War's child shall help the sight. The 8th will betray, And end the powerful game. Over, not yet. For the principal is the test...
I had to remember that I wasn't the only one going through this quest. The prophecy is so confusing, we still hadn't figured out everyone. There were things we knew for sure, of course, but others seemed like an unsolvable riddle.
"Anyone see Aria this morning?" Zia asked us. I shook my head, realizing that Aria wasn't with us when we woke up.
"She probably just went out to pick some blueberries or think or something," Haley suggested. Then, everyone just went back to their normal lives like-
Just like nothing ever happened! She could be out there, lost or...
Or...?
Or kidnapped, taken even!
Nonsense. There wasn't anyone else around and well... The mist and stuff.
The prophecy.
What? I don't-
You'll get it in a minute.
I still have no-
Wait for it.
What are you even-
Wait for i-
STOP! Alright! It's not like the prophecy said anyone would betray us and go kidnap someone. Why would anyone do that?! That's crazy talk! You are insane! I'm-
I'm... Oh.
Yup.
I see... Ugh, so someone in our group is evil?
No, I didn't suggest that and the prophecy only said that the 8th would betray.
So? Isn't that evil? I have to think for a moment. I take some food in a small pouch, "Excuse me for a moment."
I don't understand. This has all been to much for me.
Think for a moment.
Someone probably took Aria from our group. But... why? I don't mean to be rude, but wouldn't they rather take me? I mean, I am the one leading this thing. The one who has to figure this out. Or someone who has great power...
May I remind you that it is very special and not often that the Big Three have children. Every since the Legends... Well, the gods have been more open to the half-bloods as long as they usually tell each other.
What has that got to do with it?! ...Oh wait, Aria is one of...
Oh.
Ohhhhh....
Though that is probably not why they took her... hmm...
Wait a minute, you are the author! You can just write down a few words and... 'POOF' ...Just like that Aria is back, safe and sound.
Just like that? Just like that?! Do you...
Yeah, why not?! Please! Actually, while you are at it, why don't you just make the objects appear and let us take down those gates easily!
...Just like that.
Yes! Just like that!
Hello?
...I thought you'd be smarter...
Smarter?! What do you mean, smarter?!
OK! I'm sorry, you can come telepathy speak now or whatever!
Heh... I think I'm done here right now.
Wait! I said... Well telepethied or something... That I'm sorry! Please!
Ok, I got to summon Athena soon, before anyone else-
"Hey, you ok?" Reese startled me.
"Oh! H-hey," I jumped.
"Scared ya? Haha," Reese said.
I thought for a moment then, "I want to tell you something, but... You probably won't believe me."
"Believe you?! After finding out that these myths are real, putting your trust in anyone and everyone, no offense, you think that some people just can't return that trust, huh?" She said.
I shook my head quickly, "I didn't mean it that way! It's just so cra-"
"No, I know, sorry. You can tell me. Don't be worried someone won't believe you. There is always gonna be someone out their who does believe you. Maybe we should even get some help..." Reese took out a phone and texted someone. I didn't want to intrude her business by looking over at the screen. I know I always hate when people do that to me.
Instead, I tell her about the author inside my head, and she listens. "The author also suggested that..."
"That? Come on, I believe you this far. Don't stop now," Reese encourages.
"That Aria was kidnapped. By someone in this camp," I say.
Reese just looks at me, then out to the sky, thinking for a moment. Then, "I believe you, she hasn't gotten back yet. We should be cautious of everyone now, even each other. I believe their is a traitor in our midst. Juts like the prophecy said."
Later that evening, Reese and I told everyone our suspicions and I announced I had a plan. "I'm going to summon Athena for help."
Haley laughed and everyone looked at me like I was insane. "Oh you're serious?!" Haley said in disbelief.
Reese leaned over my shoulder and whispered, "Did the author suggest this too? Are you sure that this author is not trying to get us killed?"
I shook my head, "I think the author is on our side."
"Though who else can hear her?! All these crazy plans... The author just-" Reese started.
"How are you supposed to summon a goddess?" Aria interrupted.
"Good question, Ziya. Jacob?" My grandma said. All eyes turned to a blushing Jacob.
"I've done it once. Not doing it again. That's all," Jacob says.
"Jacob, this is important. Don't you think we need her?" I give him my puppy eyes look.
"Argh... It's not like in the Legends where the blood line can call for them now. It requires a sacrifice..." Jacob said.
Oh no. No, no, no. "...Isn't there something else though?!" I say desperately, thinking of Audrey and the prophecy. I look over to her and she looks concerned too.
"Of course there is something else! There always is a way, isn't there?" I hear a familiar, warm voice call out. Everyone looks over to the end of the hill where Jeffory now stood. "Hey Caleigh!"
"H-hi?" I stutter. What was he doing here.
"I told him we needed help, not this!" I hear Reese mutter. That must've been who she was texting. Jeffery.
Well, he was here now, and we couldn't just send him back could we? I mean it is pretty dangerous, right? Guess he'll just hafta stay here for a little... *sigh*Or maybe a while. Depends on if he wants to get married or no-NOPE! Sorry bout that! Got carried away... Heh heh.
Reese face palmed. Ziya blurted out, "YES! We need your help! Big time!"
Then we filled him in on everything that has happened over a picnic lunch.
