"How on Earth did you manage to sneak a freaking Warlock into the Academy?" Ashtyn hissed at Sydney. Who had sat on her bed and hugged her knees to her chest
"Well, actually," Rem said "It wouldn't be that hard, the Wards are down. They shut them off during school hours. Seems how the entire campus is filled with Shadowhunters, we don't need to have the Wards on," Rem slowly turned away from the others and stepped inside the bathroom. The Warlock yelped and slid away further, swallowing hard. Rem slowly raised her hands up in front of her
"Hey, easy. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on," Rem said, her voice soft and soothing. The Warlock's tension seemed to ease, but she still remained cautious.
"What's your name?" Rem asked her. She slowly swallowed hard again
"Audrey," she whispered, her voice tiny. Rem smiled faintly
"Well, Audrey. Why don't you get off of this bathroom floor and come out here-"
"No!" Audrey yelped, making Rem jump "If I go out there they will find me!"
Rem slowly stood back up, and scratched the back of her head
"Who is 'they'" Ash asked, eyeing the two. Audrey slowly looked up at the taller blonde girl
"My family," Audrey whispered. Slowly looking down at the floor. Rem watched her, and looked at Ash.
"Why would you be afraid of your family?" Ash asked. Audrey whimpered and looked back up at them
"Okay, I think that's enough questions," Sydney said. Pushing Rem and Ash out of the way roughly. Ash glared at her and yanked Rem over towards her.
"You shove my Parabatai like that again I'll rip your teeth out of your skull," Ashtyn snarled at Sydney. Who had knelt down and placed a hand on Audrey's shoulder.
"Knock it off," Rem snapped at Ash. Yanking her arm out of her grip, she slowly leaned against the wall. Sydney slowly looked at them
"So I guess now that you two know about her, you're going to report me to the Dean," she said. Ash opened her mouth to give a snarky reply, when Rem stepped forward
"No," she said. Everyone's eyes bugged, and they looked at her
"Remmy!" Ash said, Rem rolled her eyes
"Telling the Dean won't fix anything. I mean, if we keep her being here quiet, we can keep her safe," Rem said, motioning towards Audrey. Who smiled greatly at her. Ash walked forward and gripped Rem's arms, shaking her to make her look into her eyes
"Are you insane? If we don't tell the Dean, and she finds out later, we will get in trouble for knowing about it and not saying anything! You'll get stripped of your marks, and become a Forsaken. I don't want that for you," she whispered. Rem slowly looked away. And looked at Audrey, who had wrapped her arms around herself. And was looking at her with big doey eyes.
"Then so be it. I'm not ratting her out. She stays here, and we stay quiet," Rem said. Ash cursed and walked away. Clearly pissed off. Rem flinched, her Parabatai Rune began to sting on her collarbone.
It wasn't 3 seconds later when Audrey rushed forward and threw her arms around Rem's shoulders. Hugging her tight. Rem's eyes widened, but she slowly, awkwardly hugged her back
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Audrey whispered into her ear, as though she was praying. Rem smiled and slowly pulled away. Audrey and Rem looked into each other's eyes
"You stay low, and magic is off limits. You're lucky Ash and I were the only ones who smelt it," Rem warned. Audrey nodded and slowly walked out of the bathroom and sat down on the vacant bed across from Sydney's.
Rem sighed and slowly raised a hand and pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling a headache beginning to form between her eyes. Sydney watched as the other girl slowly reached up and pulled her hair out of her braid. The brown curls falling down around her shoulders. The freckles on her pale face seemed to be showing more than normal, and her eyes seemed more gray.
"Thank you," Sydney whispered "For keeping this a secret,"
Rem smiled weakly at her, as a piece of her hair fell into her face.
Without thinking, Sydney walked over and pushed the piece out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. Rem jumped a little, surprised by the act. A light blush coming to her cheeks.
"Sorry," Sydney flushed, "I've just always wanted to do that,"
Sydney turned on her heel and bounced out of the bathroom. Leaving Rem to stand there, watching her go. With a look of confusion spread across her features.
