4:30 p.m
I didn't know what to wear and Connor could be here any minute, so I put on some of my favorite jeans. They where worn and they fit perfectly. They had holes on the knees and they had various paint splatters on them. I always wore them when I painted. They make me feel secure, free and most importantly relaxed. I kept my purple V-neck on and put on my white converse.
I thought I looked somewhat fashionable, but I really had nothing to compare my outfit to.
I thought about wearing make-up but decided against it. This wasn't a date so there really was no need.
I was about to put my hair in a messy bun when the doorbell rang.
Eh, it'll be dark so it's not like anyone will care what I look like anyways.
I came to door to a very happy looking Connor.
"Hey! Come in, I just need to get my phone and my keys" I said while walking back towards the kitchen. Oh, wait. Was I going to drive, or was he? Or was I going to follow him? Should I ask?
"Well, actually since I know how to get there I was thinking about driving you but, if you want to drive then that's fine with me." He said relaxed.
I don't get how he does that. How is he so relaxed about everything? He isn't awkward and shy so why cant I be like that?
"Oh yeah, that's cool. Actually better since my car doesn't have air-conditioning." I replied with a smile. I think I made that cool.
I walked out of the door and shut it.
"Aren't you going to lock your door?" He asked sceptically.
"No. I rarely do. There's not many people around here, and robbers would have a pretty tough time trying to find anything valuable in my house." I said with a shrug. Why did I just tell him that? He could rob me!
He smiled and kept on walking to his car.
He had a nice little car. It wasn't a sports car or a truck, it was cute, and actually quite femine.
I snickered as I got into the passenger side of the car.
"What?" He asked cluelessly.
"Nothing." I said resisting the urge to laugh.
I put my seatbelt on as I faced the window because I knew if I saw his face I was going to burst out laughing.
"Look, I know my car a little girlish but it's not my fault!"
"My sister got a new car last month so she gave this one to me!"he said convincingly.
"Sure, whatever" I teased while rolling my eyes.
He checked his mirror and backed out of my drive way.
It was quiet.
Way too quiet for my liking.
Not the kind of comfortable quiet that people always want.
But the awkward kind of quiet.
The kind of quiet When you want to say something to the other person but you don't know what to say, or how to say it, so you just remain quiet.
My thoughts were cut off by the obnoxious sound of a dying whale.
Oh wait, that was my stomach.
As I grasped my stomach I realized the only thing I had eaten all day was the ice cream I had this morning.
I looked up at Connor and noticed he was staring at my me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't eat much today and, it's just, awkward." I ended with a sigh as I slumped back in my seat.
"It's totally fine. And it's not awkward unless you make it awkward by stating, that it's awkward." He said with a chuckle. I guess he did have a point there.
"I don't get it. You are so relaxed about everything. You don't seem worried or stressed about anything." I said facing out the window.
"Maybe, I'm just better at hiding it then you are." I never thought of it that way.
"Maybe." I said more it myself than to him.
After we sat for about 5 more minutes in a semi-awkward silence I decided to turn the radio on.
I was switching through radio stations and stopped once I heard Imagine Dragons 'It's Time'.
"Leave it there, please. I love this song."
We both started humming to the song and before we knew it, it became a full out music video.
The sun was setting as we passed through the edge of city. There was a gorgeous yellow tinge in the windows of buildings we were passing.
I turned around to look at the back window and I saw the sun slowing disappearing behind the skyscrapers of the city.
I was amazed. All my life I thought a 'perfect moment' was when music and scenery gives off the same kind of vibe and it meshes together into a indescribable duo.
But I was wrong. I realized that it isn't just about the scenery and the music making you feel a certain way, but when you're with a person that makes you feel those things, and you add the music and scenery, it gives perfect a totally different meaning.
I looked up at Connor and studied him. I don't know why I agreed to this. I just met him this morning. But something about him made me feel special. I felt free.I felt cared for. And important. Not just that odd girl that sits in the back of the class and eats alone at lunch, but someone that people hang out with, and like to be around. And I didn't know much about him, or who he really was, but I knew that he made me feel important and I like that.
"What?" He asked puzzled. Crap, he caught me staring at him.
"Am I that bad of a singer?" He asked.
"No! Not at all. I was just-I was thinking- I-I-, Nevermind" I said with an exasperated sigh.
I could see him smiled in the rear view mirror.
I looked out the window and watched the sun start to set. It was beautiful. We sat in silence for the rest of the car ride.
When we arrived at the beach, the smell of salt water instantly hit me.
Connor parked his car as I climbed out of the car, he reached into the back seat and grabbed swim trunks.
I knew I forgot something.
"Did you forget your bathing suit?" He asked in a teasing manner.
I rolled my eyes at his question, because I knew that he knew that I forgot to bring a bathing suit.
"Yes" I mumbled under my breath.
He chuckled.
"Well, that's just too bad" he said with a smirk.
I took my shoes off so I could feel the yellow, grainy sand.
I breathed in as I looked out at the water. The sun was starting to set on the horizon.
It was definitely a picture worth taking. I watched all of the people on the beach conversing and laughing when I starting panicking.
"Relax, it's ok. Remember, just try it out for a while and of you dont like it we'll walk to a less crowded area."
I can do this.
Obviously Mother Nature had a different plan for Conner and me, because right after I had make my mind up, clouds started rolling in from behind us and at the crack of thunder, it started raining.
