I glance at the shadow pacing its way around the circular walls.  It is a familiar one, and I am accustomed to doing what I must. Many explorers in the area had been reporting mysterious bat injuries, from unknown, scarred creatures.  There are gnawers that still align with those of old. It has only been a few minutes of me standing in the entry to the cavern when it raised its nose into the air and took a long breath. It stopped cold and turned towards me, its red eyes glowing eerily.  I have to do a somersault so that it doesn't tear my head off. I pull my sword out of its sheath and prepare for my next attack. It leaps over me, a near miss, and I slide my sword through its belly as I duck underneath. It roars in pain and turns to me again, bent on destruction. I can see its face now, and it is most definitely not a rat.

It resembles a large, oversized wolf, but black and scarred in every imaginable place. Its ears are notched, and its eyes have grown brighter with fury. It roars, charging past me, and I have to step left as it runs past me and almost goes off the cliff near the entrance. I have him where I want him. I run at it, and as I am about to slash its face, it lets out a jet of flame from its mouth. I curse and move to the side. My hair singed, I lure him inside, my mind racing. What kind of overgrown dog is this? And how can it shoot fire? I have a feeling this is one of those days where my world is about to get about ten times more confusing, I think to myself. I decide to take it from the top. I leap up and off the edge of the precipice, and I soon feel my new bat,  Phobos, come under me and swoop low into the cave.

I throw my sword into the back of the beast, in the hopes that the wound may be fatal. My vision blurs and I know that soon I will become a raging war machine. But I can't lose my senses in this battle. Not this time. The wolf howls in pain and jumps for Phobos, who soars over the cliff.  The monster looks down and roars again, this time in defeat. I soar away, headed for Regalia. I have to tell Luxa what happened.
