It had been about a month since Carter said he was in love with me and a month since Alliyah came to our school. Everything was working out pretty well. Me and Carter decided not to date for a while so I could focus on school and for the sake of our friendship, but we had a coupleish relationship. I didn't get picked on as much, being that my best friend was the most gorgeous girl in school. Things were going great! I was on a rollercoaster that was going straight up, my only issue was the only place left for it to go was down.
...
I finished my quiz early so I decided to pull out The Fault In Our Stars. I had already read the book two times but I was so invested in the story that I couldn't stop rereading it. I could picture the gorgeous Augustus Waters and the brave Hazel Grace sitting in Oranjee talking about topics that only they would think to talk about. It was the perfect clash of love and tragedy and I loved every second of it. I remembered Carter saying he wasn't like Augustus Waters. I see now that he couldn't be more wrong because everytime I saw him I felt the rush of excitement and love that I got from reading the book. Carter was totally incorrect, he was absolutely my Augustus Waters.
I walked out of class, still holding TFIOUS in my hands.
"Hey Mel, you ready to go home?" I heard Carter say as he caught up with me.
"Yeah, let me just say bye to Alliyah." I said and began to walk towards Alliyah and the group of girls she was hanging out with. I went to hug her when my eyes suddenly locked on the girl sitting right next to her. My heart dropped along with my smile.
"Oh hi Melody!" Jessica said with a huge obviously fake smile.
"So you two do know each other!" Alliyah said enthusiastically.
I could've confronted Jessica. I could've ruined what she was beginning to have with Alliyah right there, but the piercing look in her eyes told me that if I said a word about it she would ruin me.
"Yeah, I've talked to her a couple of times before. Anyways I have to go." I mumbled and immediately broke eye contact with Jessica. I guess if Jessica made Alliyah happy then I wouldn't mess it up for her.
"Oh alright see yah!" Alliyah said as she jumped up and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
I then darted towards Carter and tried to pretend the whole event had never happened.
...
Carter and I decided to go out to eat as there was not much to do on a cold rainy day like today. We went to Panda Express, Carter's favorite place to eat, he is pretty much obsessed with it.
"You've been quiet today." I said to Carter which seemed to shock him a bit.
"Oh, I am just a bit tired." Carter said. It seemed like he was lying but I learned to never mess with a sleepy Carter, so I left it alone.
"Well, do you want to head back home?" I said as he finished up his rice.
"Yeah sure."
We started to walk to the parking lot when he stopped and grabbed my face. He hesitated and stared at my extremely confused face for a second an then he kissed me. Here we were, two teenaged kids kissing in the middle of a rainy night, it couldn't get more stereotypically romantic than this. Carter pulled away, smiled, and hugged me tightly.
"Carter, that was probably the most amazing and yet awkward thing I've ever experienced." I said jokingly
"Good." He responded with a weak laugh.
"I'm freezing my ass of Carter, lets go home." I joked.
"Alright."
There is no doubt about it, he is my Augustus Waters.
