Five year old Myrah Grace Lakes enters her Kindergarten classroom for the first time with her parents Elizabeth, she goes by Eliza for short, and Johnathan, who goes by John, hot on her trail.
"Slow down my little rocket! You're too quick to catch." Eliza grins as she half shouts.
As soon as her feet hit the shaggy yellow rug, that didn't at all match the red and teal walls, laid across the hard, pale tile the little rocket decided to freeze.
A small girl excitedly ran up to her, "Hey! My name is Alexia and this is my mom!"
She points to a taller figure that resembles her in an odd kind of way and quietly whispers through her stifled giggles, "Her name is Calliope and everyone calls her Callie, but i'm only allowed to call her mom."
When the blonde ball of energy stops speaking for a second to presumably catch her breathe, the woman she introduced as her mom takes this as her opportunity to introduce herself to Eliza and John, she extends her hand in a cautious manner as Eliza grabs it firmly she speaks with a more confident grin, "Hi, i'm Calliope, but my friends call me Callie, and this is my daughter Alexia although it appears she's already introduced the both of us."
John takes this time to say the first words he's spoken all morning as he reaches for Callie's hand, "It's nice to meet you Callie. I'm John and this is my wife Eliza." He pauses for a moment to place his hand on top of Myrah's curly brown mess of hair, "And this is our little Myrah!"
This must have angered the little rocket, as her mother had previously called her, because she matter of factly states " My name is Grace. Only my parents call me Myrah."
The teacher enters the room and with a bit of a shout over all the introductions going on announces that it was time for the parents to leave their children to the learning and begins to go over dismissal times and where to pick your children up in the afternoons.
Goodbyes are shared and tears cried, mostly by the parents but they'd never admit it, and suddenly the room is cleared.
All that's left is a room of kindergartners looking dazed and confused at their teacher. Little Myrah was seated right beside Alexia quietly whispering while the teacher gave instructions. It was clear then a life long friendship was in the making.
