After a week of that incident, Sanyukta went to a bookstore to buy a few books. She was looking through the bookshelves when someone crashed into her. Sanyukta became angry and wanted to punch the person straight in his face, but when she turned to look up at the person, she got stunned. "Are you stalking?" she asked with an unbelievable expression on her face.
"Why would I? I am here to buy a book," Randhir said, showing her the textbook.
"So you are an engineering student?" she asked, reading the cover page title.
"Yes," he replied with a bright smile.
"Science student applying for law exams," she informed him about her profession huskily.
"Great," he answered with a positive smirk. "By the way, thanks for accepting my request," he added.
"No need. I accepted your request, not your proposal," she replied while walking towards the counter.
"I like your attitude," he whispered in her ears and disappeared once she was done with the payment for books.
She looked here and there in search of Randhir, but Randhir had walked out long before.
At her home, while having dinner, again an argument took place between Sanyukta and her family.
"Engineering is not my cup of tea, I accept. Bhai, is it okay now?" she said to her brother angrily.
"I knew, Sanyukta, you are another useless creature after mom," he said in a high-pitched tone.
"Don't you dare to include my mother in this lame conversation!" she screamed, matching her brother's pitch.
"Both of you just shut up," her father, Kishore, raised his voice.
"Father-in-law, tell your daughter not to talk to my hubby in this way," Sanyukta's sister-in-law said with an attitude.
Sanyukta glared at her and took another bite of her cheesy pasta in an abnormal manner.
"You are doing engineering, Sanyukta, and no more discussion on this topic," her father declared, standing up from the chair.
Sanyukta looked at her father in dismay. The spoon in her hand fell on the table, making a thudding sound. A tear escaped from her eye, standing up from the chair, she directly stormed inside her room.
When she closed the door behind her, she bolted it, then rested her head against the cold hard wood. She didn't know whether to curse or cry but broke down into tears. "Mom, I miss you," she managed to utter. She put her head in her hands, moved her knees to her chest, and closed her eyes.
Suddenly, her phone rang, making her come out of her dream world. Wiping her tears, she received the call, not making an effort to look at the name.
"How are you?" the voice said.
"I don't want to talk," she replied in a croaky voice, ready to hang up the call.
"Sanyukta, what happened?" Randhir asked in his most caring and gentle tone.
The care in his voice for Sanyukta didn't let her end the call.
"Nothing," she replied.
"Can we meet?" Randhir asked, and for an unknown reason, stubborn Sanyukta agreed without any argument.
