Chapter 20 - Silas and His Secrets

"Wait you're his brother and you didn't know Silas was gay?" Lucas scoffed. Daman choked on his water. It definitely sounded odd to hear that in a sentence. I mean, this was Silas we were talking about! The same Silas who devotes his time to some random, plain-Jane girl named Lisa.

Oh, Lisa...

"Gay? Don't you mean bisexual?" I corrected Lucas.

"Uh no. I mean gay."

"He has a fiance. Who happens to be a woman," Daman looked at Lucas skeptically.

"Trust me, honey, I dated him for years. He's pretty fucking gay, he told me himself."

"So you and Silas had...sex?"

"Daman!" I shoved Daman for making such a personal remark.

"Sorry," Daman told Lucas. "I'm not judging at all, I'm just trying to wrap my head around this."

"It's okay. I get it, it's all new to you. But yes we did have sex," Lucas said casually.

"You know what, I'm going to check the bathroom. I have a feeling Silas might've jumped out the window or something." I pushed my chair out and walked into the restaurant. As I walked away I could hear Daman continuing to pester Lucas about his relationship with Silas.

"Silas?" I banged on the door of the single stall men's bathroom. The line of women waiting for the women's bathroom all directed their attention to me and began to stare.

"I know you're in there!" I banged harder. Now people sitting near the hallway were beginning to look over at me. With every fist I banged on the door, my ponytail would loosen and stray strands of hair would fall into my face.

Finally, the door flung open. "Jesus! What do you want?!" Silas asked in a hushed voice. I pushed past him into the white, tiled bathroom. It was neatly decorated with scented candles, magazines, and even a chair.

Silas sat down on the chair and I leaned back against the sink, facing him.

"Listen, I know you're nervous that Daman will think--"

"Valentina, don't listen to anything Lucas tells you."

"Lucas, Daman and I support you no matter who you date, we could give fewer shits about that--not that my opinion is of any value to you."

Silas stared at me for a few seconds and sighed. "Valentina, I know you think that I don't like you, and I'll admit, I didn't at first. But I know you really care about my brother and I know he really cares about you. My opinion shouldn't be a factor in whether you guys date or not, but I support you guys. When I first met you, I thought you were just like Taylor, but after spending more time with you, I've learned that you're actually the complete opposite." As he ran his fingers through his hair, I looked down at my feet, feeling slightly uncomfortable that he was speaking so highly of me. I didn't realize how much I had wanted his approval until now.

"So, you and Lucas did date?" I asked quietly.

Silas placed his head in his hands and rubbed his face.

"Yeah. We did."

"How come you never told Daman that you're also into guys?"

"I just...never got the chance I guess. And I didn't think it would be a conversation he'd be willing to have," Silas looked up and met my gaze. His eyes were glossy and he although his face looked scared, I couldn't help but notice the way he released a breath of relief. He had to feel some sort of happiness that this big secret was finally let out.
