"Marie I am going to miss you. You have become my best friend." Dahlia was almost ready to cry. It takes just as long and for me to go home."
"I will miss you too. Two non-Yankee women, we have to be sisters." Marie was definitely excited about going home to see her parents. The first leg would be a carriage to a ferry terminal then the ferry ride, then a stage line and another carriage ride. "I am thankful that my brother, Marcel, is travelling with me to carry my luggage."
"Is there anything I can do for you while you are on your visit?" Dahlia was just a small bit anxious about whether she could handle the household staff in Marie's absence.
"You will do fine." she kissed Dahlia on the cheek
That evening supper was on the table on time and the house was running smoothly as Dahlia used her gifts to circumvent problems. She entered the minds of the house staff to remind them of what they needed to do.
"Dahlia, why don't you cook some chili verde for supper tomorrow?" Albert asked as he gingerly ate the bland Yankee food on the table.
"I'd like that too." Robert smiled and nodded his head.
"I will gather what I need tomorrow and cook it the next day." Dahlia was pleased to have some home cooking that was part of her heritage.
"My God this is delicious." Robert was effusive. It was his first time eating Dahlia's cooking. "I see a whole new reason your courting this nymph little brother."
"Thank you, Robert, I am flattered by that." She smiled broadly, that was her way.
Robert and Albert followed her every movement. The part that was coquette loved it. Dahlia was such a complex young lady, that she was a multi-faceted jewel. "Dahlia, I am going to go upstairs I have a lot of reading to do." Albert departed the table.
"Dahlia, how does it feel to almost be married and lose all your freedom." Robert could not take his eyes of Dahlia. "Marriage changes everything. There is no romance or excitement anymore."
"It seems like you and Maire Therese are happy and have an exciting marriage." Dahlia defended her friend.
"Looks can be deceiving." Robert had an air of nonchalance describing his marriage. "Some people were just born to be free."
"Thank you for the conversation, Robert. I have some serious reading and study too." Dahlia whirled and stepped away from the table where she had been standing and started up the stairs.
"We talk more at a later date." Robert was enigmatic.
Two days past with little interaction. On the third night, Albert was absent. "Well Dahlia, we can talk relaxed now." Robert Jr. was looking over his cup of coffee at her.
"It is good that we can get better acquainted." Dahlia chirped unaware of the snake in the grass. "What are you working on now in your practice?"
"Oh, I am working on something, but it isn't practice." He smiled and helped her be seated. "Where is Albert?"
"I don't know, probably something with the State Volunteers." Dahlia was effervescent as usual. "Do you need to get a message to him. I can..."
"Oh I know you can when you want to....but do you want to?" Robert Jr. interrupted her. "It is so much cozier with just the two of us to get better acquainted."
"I don't need Albert by my side to love him." Dahlia was musing sweetly.
"I have some champagne. Would you like a glass." Robert Jr. was starting his assault on Dahlia naivetee.
"Thank you, no. I don't drink any alcohol because it makes me really sick." Dahlia suspected nothing.
"I am going to pour myself a brandy. I have a headache and a stiff neck." Plan A failed now plan b was invoked.
"Is there anything I can do? May I bring you a cold towel?" She could not resist helping some one hurting.
"I am going to sit in the parlor. Maybe you could massage my head and shoulders." He offered.
She worked on Robert Jr. for nearly and hour, "Robert, I ahve to go to bed early tonight as I have an early class ar rhe Vet barn." She walked up stairs to her bedroom and got undressed. She heard footsteps o up the stairs. "Albert?" There was no answer as she had all her clothes off and was about to slip into her nightgown.
"Dahlia, you are even more beautiful without your clothes on." Robert was leaning against he bedroom door.
She covered her front with her gown, "Robert, what are you doing? Do you still have a headache?" She still did not get the nuance of her situation.
"Oh Dahlia, it is starting to go away now." He started walking toward her.
She moved back a step and bunped into her bed. "Robert, no this is not right." She looked at him with such shock in her face.
He walked over to her and snatched the night gown away exposing he totally nude body. "It may not be right, but it will be enjoyable."
"Robert, stop acting like this. It's not you." She could not believe this behavior in her sweet innocence. She didn't know what was wrong with Robert.
He stepped direcly in fron of her. She fell back onto the bed. "This is going to be fun for both of us."
"I can't do this." She was barely breathing.
"What do you mean? I hear Albert tiptoeing i here almost every night." He started laughing as he began disrobing himself as he stood betwee her legs.
"You can not do this!" She was now aware that a sexual assault on her was in progress.
"Oh yes I can. If Albert can do it, I can do it." He smirked as he dropped his trousers to the floor.
"Please don't. You will regret it." She was serious and assertive now.
"Oh, I don't think I will regret it. It will be our littlese....." He flew backwards and hit the door frame with his back. "Oomph, damn you." He was so angry he was shaking.
"I told you that you cannot. I will be able to hurt you without touching you." She was angry.
Robert Jr. was angry too. He was infact enraged. "You little whore. I will.." He raised his fist and he whrled around and smashed his fist into the door frame. He screamed in agony. He stepped forward and tripped on his own trouser around is ankle and fell forward.
Dahlia made sure that he fell al the way down the stairs. He was moaning in pain on the last step. "Help me please, Dahlia."
Dhalia hurredly slipped her gown on and ran down the stairs. "I will only help you if you promise never to tell Marie Therese what you did."
"I promise, is anything broken? How about Albert, don't you care if he knows?" Robert Jr. was grimmacing in pain.
"Albert already knows." She helped Robert Jr. to move to the chaise in the parlor. "I mean not a word or I will make you commit suicide. I love Marie Therese. I'd sooner she be a widow than a cuckold."
