The night I met him was unarguably the best night of my life. It was like nothing in the world mattered anymore – of course, at the time, I thought it was just the alcohol doing its job. But now I know… I know that he’s the reason why I’m happier, why I feel complete, and why I embrace the thought of true love. Cheesy and clichéd, right?
I giggled as I dizzily swayed back and forth on my feet, making my way closer and closer to the very trampoline where I had first met him. A rather large, glass bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey was gripped tightly in my left hand, the liquid swishing around in its container as I stumbled towards the bouncy deathtrap. As I lied down on my back, I stared up into the vast, navy blue sky and smiled. The stars were out tonight. My star was out tonight.
The sound of crunching leaves softly laced my ears, and the lull of his voice devoured me whole, gentle and smooth… just like velvet. “Hey,” he whispered into my ear, the pressure of his body on the trampoline caused my own being to slide closer to him. He brought his hand up to softly caress my arm, and I shivered at his touch. Feeling the air shift, I turned to look at him. There was a small smile casually playing on his lips, his raven black hair tousled up to one side, and his crystal grey eyes were slightly glazed over, sparkling in the midnight moonlight. He looked beautiful, and he was – inside and out.
“I love you,” I murmured. His smile grew wider and his eyes seemed to light up brighter, pulling me back into the memories of the night when I had first met him. The night that poured over and under my thoughts, the night that suffocated my lungs, the night that carved its name into my heart, refusing to ever erase itself from my life.
