- 9: Pranks in the Ranks -

- Holly's POV -

"Joe."

It may be the seriousness in my tone that causes Joe to glance up from his kit of miraculously enhanced pranks. Hopefully it indicates a newer attitude of seriousness that he'll begin to show in his work, but I'm going to start laughing if I think of such improbable things.

"Yes, Holls?"

"I need you to put down that box, interesting though it is -- wait, is that what I think it is?"

"I know, it's so funny -- "

"Wait, I'm sorry, never mind! Look, we've received word that an angel is in Heaven."

"Holls, I get that you're a bit tired and all, but I think you gotta remember that angels are meant to be in Heaven."

"Oh, I know. The problem is that the angel is not an angel."

"Ya lost me."

"Joe...this angel is a demon. And for whatever reason, in the middle of the night, they came prowling into Heaven."

"That sounds pretty harmless. Yo, but can we do pranks with them?" At that suggestion, he becomes invigorated.

"No, Joe. We cannot do pranks with them." I am assured that my serious facade is unbreakable until he turns to me with eyes reminiscent of my childhood dog, and I sigh.

"It depends on how dangerous they prove to be," I allow, which is as far as I can go. It is enough for Joe, who gives me a friendly, excited hug before twirling around.

"Oh, my man! Oh, this is great! Alright, let's go!"

Joe is out the door before I've registered his words, and I'm left shaking my head and giggling to myself in the angels' meeting room.

"This is sure to be an interesting adventure."
