NIGHT 5
I’m With You
(DREAMER sits mirror from previous scene, Remorseful. MOTHER enters from SL alleyway and DAUGHTER enters from SR alleyway. MOTHER and DAUGHTER sit on bench. MOHTER is kneeling with her head buried in her hands. DAUGHTER holds her shoulders reassuringly.)
DREAMER. Death (Pause) Mourning. (Pause) Broken. (Pause) A mother and a daughter. But not by blood, by marriage. (Pause) The one weeping truly loved her husband, but he has now gone, leaving them with nothing, causing them both to become part of the outside. (Pause) Yet these women refuse to be broken. They will not stop living. (DREAMER exits.)
MOTHER:
Love is a hurricane in a blue sky.
I didn’t see it coming, never knew why.
All the laughter and the dreams,
All the memories in between,
Washed away in a steady stream.
DAUGHTER:
Love is a hunger; a famine in your soul.
I thought I planted beauty, but it would never grow.
Now I’m on my hands and knees,
Trying to gather up my dreams,
Trying to hold on to anything.
And we could shake a fist in times like this,
When we don’t understand.
Or we could just hold hands.
(sings)
You and me, me and you.
Where you go, I’ll go too.
I’m with you.
MOTHER (sings):
I’m with you.
DAUGHTER (sings):
Until your heart finds a home,
I won’t let you feel alone.
I’m with you.
I’m with you.
MOTHER:
…With you.
DAUGHTER:
You do your best to build a higher wall.
To keep love safe from any wrecking ball.
When the dust has cleared, we will
See the house that Love rebuilds
MOTHER and DAUGHTER (sings):
Guarding beauty that lives here still.
MOTHER(sings):
It’s you and me, me and you,
Where you go, I’ll go too.
I’m with you.
MOTHER and DAUGHTER (sings):
I’m with you.
Until your heart finds a home,
I won’t let you feel alone.
MOTHER (sings):
I’m with you
MOTHER and DAUGHTER (sings):
I’m with you.
DAUGHTER:
Who can say I’m left with nothing
When I have all of you? All of you.
In the way you always love me
MOTHER and DAUGHTER:
I remember…
MOTHER: (broken)
He does too…
(Pause. Sings)
You and me, me and you
Where you go, I’ll go too
I’m with you
I’m with you
DAUGHTER (sings):
Until your heart finds a home
I won’t let you feel alone
I’m with you
I’m with you
(whispers)
We’ll make it through…
Until your heart finds a home
I won’t let you feel alone
I’m with you
I’m with you.
(MOTHER and DAUGHTER exit together SR alleyway.)
