Part 7

Zacks POV

4 DAYS LATER

"So that would place him about here" Matt announced out loud pointing at a map he had placed across my breakfast bar. "You figured it out?" I jumped from my seat rushing across to him and everyone including Sophie followed. "I think so but then again I could be wrong" He sighed rubbing the pen across his forehead. For days we had worked trying to figure out where he could of taken Claire...Louise. The past few days had been torture for Sophie and me and every waking moment I had stayed next to the phoning helping Matt look through all newspaper and online articles to find something to give us a clue. Her photo was now being shown on the news next to his in an attempt to find them both. Looking down at the location Matt had point out I leaned in to see it was another forest. "There are a few derelict houses in that exact forest it is just which one he is holding her in" Matt placed his hand on my shoulder as I stared at the area. "We will find her" He smiled. "Sophie grabbed the card Mark had left a few days before and starting tapping his number into her phone to call him. "Hello?...yeah we think we know where Jamie has taken Claire!" She paced back and forth a few times before coming to a halt. "But no that is not where..."Her eyes began to fill with tears as she listened to what sounded like someone being assertive down the phone. Everyone looked at her waiting for what was happening. "Ok I understand" She exclaimed hanging up and slamming the phone onto the counter top. "Well?" Jimmy questioned. 

"He said we are not to go on goose chases and to wait for his call. Apparently they have tracked his trail East to a small town called prosper or something daft!" She sank to the floor while leaning against the wall. "But that is the opposite direction!" She added. "Doesn't mean we can't help cover extra ground and check this out!" Matt finally added. I nodded to agree and headed into a back room where I kept my baseball bat. Grabbing it readying myself for a fight I headed back into the front room where everyone was waiting for me. "Zack?..." Johnny and Brian exclaimed at the same time making me come to a halt. "If he is really as dangerous as they say he is we need a gun" Brian held his hand out for the bat expecting me to give it him. Gripping it in both hands low down I felt myself get angry. "To what?! Fucking shoot the bastard?! That would be too quick I want that bastard to suffer!" I screamed swinging the bat at the way. The sudden urge of aggression slipped away from me as I heard sobs coming from Sophie. I looked up at her to see sadness and turmoil take over her. "With a gun we can make him stand down and get her out safely. Then the police can make sure he suffers in jail" Brian reached out again taking the bat from my hands as I loosened my grip. I sighed and followed them out the door but Brian kept hold of the bat placing it in the boot of my car. 

"Just in case" He added jumping into a back seat in the car. Everyone except Sophie got in and Matt jumped into the drivers seat. "You wait here Sophie just in case the police call..ok?" Matt yelled out the window as Sophie backed up to the front door watching us pull out the drive. Matt drove us to his dads house. His dad was a hunter and had a mass amount of guns and rifles in his house. I remembered being round there as a small boy being shown how to clean them properly and his dad teaching us how to shoot tin cans on the back field behind his house. Now the guns were going to be used for more although I didn't want the guys to know that. Matt hopped out of the car with Jimmy in tow and the rest of us stayed in the car by Brian's order as he grabbed my shoulder stopping me from getting out also. After five minutes the two came back towards the car loading shot guns and hand pistols into the boot. They got back into the car and Matt placed a hand gun down the side of his side of the car. Nobody said a word as he reversed off the driveway and we was on our way to the location a few hours drive away.

2 Hours later.

We pulled up to the walking entrance to the forest and started to unload the guns from the boot. "The first house is half a mile north" Matt shouted to everyone who was loading the guns with bullets and shells. I took a simple hand gun. If I was going to shoot him it would be close range. Ii want him to see who killed him. "Zack no shooting him unless we have to..OK?!" Brian asked watching me shake while loading the gun dropping bullets on the leaf covered roadside. "Zack!". "Ok..." I agreed trying to calm myself ready for the intrusion. We headed towards the first house which we came to pretty quickly. Everyone went into stealth mode guns pointed ready keeping low hiding behind trees and fallen logs in front of house. Glass was no longer set in the windows and the roof was half collapsed. If anyone was in there they was not protected from the weather or the cold. Matt crouched slightly and headed slowly towards the house shot gun at the ready. We all followed slowly yet spread out in hope nobody would escape. Brian headed into the house after checking the coast was clear while leaning against the wall peering in. Silently we creeped into the house and checked every room. Nothing. Matt and Johnny headed upstairs and I waited at the bottom to stop anyone getting out that way. "All clear!" Matt shouted running back down and outside. "Nobody has been here for years, the floors caving in up there" Johnny added. I followed the guys outside reluctantly wondering if we had even got this right or if it was a waste of time.
