Francine and I Danny biked to our new school. It was the first day. A warm breezy Monday. We felt warm because of the hot weather with the nice cool breeze passing by our faces. Now I am a fifth grader. All I know about fifth grade is from my friend who is now in middle school. But really, all I know about is the events. Not anything we are learning. Once Francine arrived at school she was already making new friends. Me, I felt anti-social. I was really shy. All I really did was read. Another fifth grader passed by me and snickered," Dork!" he said. It really hurt my feelings so I found a teacher. Pointed him out. Then there he was saying sorry. I felt bad for him. Just passing by people calling them dorks. He does not realize that he can get in trouble. Then the bell rang. I was so excited because I was sick for the meet the teacher day. Because of that I am going to meet her today. Surprisingly Francine was in the same class. She had skipped a grade!
After school we headed home on our bikes. Today the lessons were very easy. Could not believe they were giving us fourth grade things. We are in fifth grade now. As were riding back home me and Francine were racing. Of course I did not win. Mostly because I was tired and ready to go home. When we opened the garage we heard a gunshot and saw men bursting out the door. They looked at us quickly and ran. Me and Francine started dashing in the house. All we really saw was the dead body laying there with our mother crying there on him. Our eyes started burning up right away. Just seeing the body there was heart breaking. Me and Francine still remember the date. November 18, 2001.That was the robbery. The agonizing pain we went through was definitely making us suffer.
The next day the teacher kept wondering why me and Francine were crying. When it was test time she brought us over to her desk. " Why you so sad? Do I need to teach better? Is there something wrong?" The kids cried and sadly nodded yes. Mrs. Hally did not want to ask. She knew if she did then it would bring more pain to their hearts to just talk about it. Mrs. Hally is a kind hearted and bright teacher. Francine and I know the words cruel and rude would most definitely not fit her.
