Having to wear human clothes was humiliating and annoying. Us merfolk have never thought of doing such things. I did want to hide my new human legs with the towel Alex had wrapped around me earlier. It had been hours since I last saw Zachariah. The sun was high in the sky and I fel like I was being cooked as I waited. My eyes stayed on the ocean for Zachariah, my father, or either of the Siren Sisters. There were a ton of humans around, more than I ever knew possible to exist. "olivia, its hot out here. If you stay out here any loner you will get a sunburn. That guy isnt coming back while the beach is full of peaople."
I kept my eyes on the ocean, but somehow knew he was right. I was burning up and had a longing to go into the water, but with my new legs I cant swim. I looked up at Alex. "what should i do?"
"well, you can come with me. Ill get you something to eat. Then we can come back later when no one else is here." Alex said as he stood up, dusting the sand off of his dark colored shorts. He held his hand out to me. I was hesitant but the thought of food made my stomach rumble. I was starving. I took his hand and he pulled me to my feet. I lost my balance but Alex grabbed my arm and held me steady. He kept me balanced as we walked on the beach, away from the ocean and further into territory I didnt know. He walked me to a big black thing. I held onto him tightly as he tried to make me get closer to it. I had seen something liek this before at the bottom of the ocean one time when I left the city with my father.
"Will you please get in the car Olivia?" He said, sounding frustrated. I stared at the black thing. This is a car? I let Alex walke me closer to the car before he opened the door and shoved me inside. Alex was beside me inside the car before I knew it. There were so many objects that were unknown to me. I grabbed some of the knobs and buttons. Alex chuckled at me, " calm down. Ill answer any questions you have just dont touch things without knowing what they are."
"I know these are knobs and buttons." I replied in an exited tone to Alex.
"Yes they are. But you dont know what they do." Alex said as he started to car and steered it away from the ocean. It reminded me of a boat. "I would take you somewhere but since you are wearing my clothes and have no shoes, we will go to my house. I'm sure there's something there you will eat."
I expected Alex's house to be made of mud and rock, the same way mine was. But it wasn't. Humans have diferent materials than we do and their houses actually look nice. I was intrigued by everything the human world had to offer and it didnt seem so bad if i had to stay human. I could learn about all of this neat stuff. My world was starting to look dull compared to this.
