A few days had passed since my diner job ended, and I still had no luck finding work. I carried my résumé into another shop. A convenience store.. I sighed and went into the office and handed over my résumé.
"Alright, you've worked a lot of jobs.." The manager muttered.
"Some of which I quit, others shut down." I pointed out.
"A lot of places have shut down where you've worked!" He looked up at me.
"Coincidence?" I shrugged.
"Alright. You certainly have the experience!" The manager smiled.
"Yes.." I was sitting at the edge of my seat.
"You've got the job! Come in tomorrow at 12 for your first shift." I shook hands with him and exited. I walked out and back to my car. Sitting down I sighed.
"I have to get a good job sometime right?" I rested my head against the wheel. I eventually moved past my feeling of self hatred and drove back to my place. A group of bills waited at my door. I internally screamed and picked them up, climbing up the stairs I sat down and stared out the window. A knock sounded on my door. I moved slowly towards the door and opened it.
"Jim?" I was surprised to see the man in the Westwood suit at my doorstep.
"Hello Y/N." He smiled a bit.
"How'd you know where I lived?" I blinked at him.
"I looked you up and saw your résumé online, it has your address, I thought I'd stop by." Jim shrugged slightly.
"Oh.. Okay?" I opened the door, he entered without hesitation and went to my window which faced the other side of the street.
"Have you ever met Mr.Holmes?" Jim gazed lazily at me. I grabbed a cup of tea off the table and handed it to him.
"Met him? Well I nearly broke his door down yesterday, shooting the damn walls at 6:00 in the morning." I groaned. Jim chuckled.
"What is he like?" Jim smiled and looked back at me.
"He's rude, arrogant, self centred. Noisy.." I rolled my eyes and smiled.
"Not a fan then?" Jim laughed.
"Not at all!" I grinned. Jim walked over to the living room.
"So what's up Jim? Why are you here?" I stared after him.
"I need a place to stay for a few days.." Jim stared back.
"Oh?"
"My roommates parents are in town and they're taking my room for a few days, until then I have to find somewhere else to stay.. We've been texting back and forth for the last few days, and I trust you!" Jim explained. My mind spiralled into a battle of kindness and sense. I inhaled preparing for the sentence I would make.
"Sure! Yeah you can stay here, I have a guest bedroom.." I immediately regretted my decision.
"Thank you so much! You are so kind!" Jim smiled widely.
"Oh I know.." My words were shaky and breathy.
"I'll pick up my stuff and be back in a few hours!" He walked towards the door.
"Okay, I'll be at work then.. I'll just leave the door open for you!" I noted.
"Oh thanks!" Jim waved and went out the door. I nodded and spun around. I laid on the couch and sighed. My phone went off.
Hey Y/N, I think I might have found a job that matches your major! - Holly.
I sat straight up and called her.
"You found a job!?" I practically yelled.
"Woah calm down N/N (nickname)!" Holly has been my closest friend since grade school, she teaches kindergarten in a small town outside of London.
"I can't calm down! I need a job.." I forced myself to sit down.
"Well you majored in clinical psychology, you could be making good money Y/N!" Holly exclaimed.
"So what's the job?" I felt my hands shaking.
"A doctor in your profession just retired, he works in my boyfriend's office. I guess they have a job opening there and I can get you an interview for next Monday!" Holly squealed excitedly.
"Oh my god that's amazing!" I leaped out of my seat.
"So do you want the job?"
"Are you kidding!? Of course!" I cried.
"Oh I'm so happy for you Y/N! You're finally getting your job!" I could practically hear her smiling through the phone.
"Thank you so much, Holly!" I hung up and squealed uncontrollably. I put my coat on and went downstairs out to work. I worked part time at a grocery store. Sighing I started working the register once again. I ended up getting yelled at a few times by angry customers.
"Ma'am.. I know the lettuce gave your son food poisoning... But I have absolutely no control over that, so please stop yelling.." I stated calmly to a red faced customer.
"Don't get smart with you-"
"I suggest you don't finish that sentence." I blinked turning to see Jim standing behind me.
"Jim? What are you doing here?" I glanced between him and the customer who looked like she was going to implode.
"You told me you worked here, so I came to see when your shift ends!" Jim smiled. I smiled back and nodded.
"Who the bloody hell are you!?" The woman snapped.
"Oh yes sorry, my name is Jim! Stop snapping at her or you'll regret it.." Jim flashed a sinister grin. The woman fell silent and walked away.
"Thanks.." I turned to him with a sigh.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure she's taken care of.." Jim smirked and put his hand on my shoulder. A blush fell over my face, he noticed and grinned. He lifted his hand and stepped back.
"What time does your shift end?" Jim asked.
"In another hour.." I huffed and fixed a piece of stray hair. This strange man was beginning to grow on me.. He smiled at me and nodded before leaving. I sighed and continued with my work.
-timeskip-
I felt like I was going to shoot someone by the time I got out of work, I trudged back to my flat in the rain. I pushed the door open, but to my surprise everything was tidy, the shelves dusted, things put back where they should be.
"I felt that if I should be staying with you, I should repay you!" Jim stepped out from the bathroom.
"Oh my gosh Jim! This place looks amazing!" I cried, and without thinking I hugged him. I felt him tense, I pulled away and looked down.
"I-I'm sorry.." I whispered. A hand rested on my shoulder.
"Don't be, it was a nice thing to do! It just took me by surprise.." I gazed into his eyes, but they were dull, unlike his bright distracting smile.. Something was wrong here.
"Are you okay?" Jim interjected my thoughts.
"Oh yes sorry! I was just thinking, and I'm a little bit drunk, I stopped at the pub before coming back." I wasn't lying, usually after that shift I'd drink my mind away at the pub, I only had three draft beers tonight but it was enough to make me loopy.
"Oh dear, I knew I smelled alcohol on you!" His smile widened. I was sober enough to know he was faking something.
"Ahahaha! You'd be right!" I forced more slur into my words.
"Maybe you should lay down." He grabbed my hand and lead me to the couch. I laid down staring up at the ceiling.
"I'm fine.." I murmured. He chuckled and sat beside me.
"You look like you've been bashed on the head." He stared at me, his brown eyes began to reveal a hidden darkness.
"Who are you.. Really?" I stared hard at him.
"Jim Moriarty."
"And what does Jim Moriarty do for a living?" My mind was fogging more now. He handed me a glass, I drank the contents.
"I'm a.. Photographer.." He put the glass down on the table.
"What are you doing here then?" I felt the room spin, something was wrong.
"Waiting for the right beauty to capture."
And everything went black..
