It's morning again, and this nagging heavy feeling in my chest is still there.
"Sandra, the table is ready." I jumped out of my bed when my brother called me out.
"Yes, will be there, just give me a few minutes" I run to the bathroom and took a quick shower. I am a freshman studying Information Technology at the same University as my older brother.
"Sandra, make it fast, we are gonna be late!"
My brother shouted from the bottom of the stairs. I finished my make-up and then run down the stairs.
My brother is always in a hurry every Monday since he has an 8 AM class today. If not for his car I won't be getting a ride with him cause my class starts at 10 AM. But commuting is a proven hassle in my life.
When I enter the dining area I saw my brother already at the table reading the morning papers.
It's something that he took after my mother. They insist on knowing what is happening in the country.
"Eat fast, we need to be on the road at 7 AM" he looks at his watch and continues, "You have about 20 minutes to finish your food."
I silently sat on my chair and eat my breakfast, our oldest help, Mrs. Santos smiled at me and gave me my glass of orange juice.
We are so silent at the table. But this is not always the case, we used to always talk about our days, like the assignments that we get from our professors. We are taking the same course and his professors are the same professors I have now. I guess nothing is really permanent in this world.
"Good Morning kids", and just like that my appetite is gone. I carefully put my spoon down and chug a good amount of water. This guy really knows how to make everyone in the room uncomfortable. He is only wearing a white robe as if this is his house.
I was about to stand up and excuse myself when my brother stepped on my foot and gave me a look. He wants me to sit down and finish my food. I looked at him for a long while before I sat back down.
"Lolit, can you get me a coffee.", Kapal talaga ng mukha nitong lalaking to. He is just another mouth to feed in this house. And that fake accent he is going for is so unnerving.
I ate my food as fast as I could to avoid any conversation with him but luck is just not on my side today.
"You two are early today", I just smiled at him, Kuya on the other hand gave him a brief answer, "School starts early today."
"I see. Anyways, your Mom and I will be flying out to the States today, and we might stay there for a month or less. She needs rest and that is what we are gonna do."
He sounds so excited and I can see in his eyes that he is mocking us, like low key telling us that our Mom is choosing him over us. If I have to guess he is the one that brought up the whole States vacation thing and my Mom just said yes cause she needs to fix a few things in our New York branch.
"Sige po Tito I'll take care of everything while the two of you are away", my brother just simply said. I can see the veins popping on his neck but he still sounded so calm and that just seems to disappoint the pest in front of us.
Hanga ako kay Kuya kasi nakakausap nya ang lalaking to. This man has been married to our Mom for five years now and I still can't get used to him. He is too much of a burden and an eyesore. And I swear to everything that I know that I will never ever let myself get used to this dumb guy.
"Good, then everything's settled then." Tumayo na sya.
"Lolit yung kape ko sa study room mo nalang dalhin." and he walked away. Kuya on the other hand finishes his coffee and looked at me. "Let's go."
