Cry Baby hid in her room for the next day. She felt like she didn't have a single person in her life to count on. Not a one. As much as she cared for Blurryface, he was unpredictable, which is fine, but difficult to fully trust.
Her therapist had suggested a month apart, to see how she does on her own, especially after meeting Blurryface, but she was the only person Cry Baby could think to call.
"Hello, this is Dr. Reginald.""Hello... This is Cry Baby. I was hoping I could schedule an appointment for later this week."
A small sigh came from the phone."Hi, Cry Baby. I'm very sorry to hear that you think you'll be needing another appointment, and I understand completely. I look forward to the time we spend together, and I would happily meet you as many times as you need. But, I also need to think of what is best for you. You've been seeing me for two years, and you were telling me about your new friend Blurry. I honestly just think it's so important for you to find somebody in your everyday life to confide in."
"Dr. Reginald...""Just for two months, Cry Baby. My purpose is to make sure you're alright when you're not in therapy. We'll take a two month break and then schedule an appointment if necessary. Alright?"
Cry Baby held the telephone tightly. "Alright.""Have a great day, Cry Baby. I'm thinking of you."
Cry Baby sat alone, unable to express her emotions.Fear? Stress? Sadness? Loneliness?
But after lots of consideration, and a few tears, she believed that her therapist was right. This was the best time to try to go with therapy, the best safety net Cry Baby might ever find.
She walked down the stairs as quietly as she could. She heard her mother vacuuming in the next room, and she exited with extreme caution, her toes the only thing keeping her on the ground.
Once she shut the door, she lightly jogged over to her bicycle and took off.
While biking through her neighborhood, she noticed a man she had never seen walking their streets before. A large, bald, Alfred Hitchcock-looking man, wearing business clothes, even though he was just standing around an smoking a cigarette.
She took a left turn, and was then on the path next to all the apartment houses. She came to an abrupt stop by Blurry's door.
She walked her bike over and rested it on the side of the building, and entered slowly. She hoped she wouldn't catch Blurry off guard as she knocked softly on his door.
He opened it so slowly that she hadn't even noticed. As soon as he saw her, however, he opened willingly, almost excitedly.
But the expression on his face was anything but excited. And then something happened, something that shocked Cry Baby.
Blurryface started to cry.Not as much as Cry Baby does, but his lips were quivering and tears were flowing on his cheeks.
Not questioning a thing, Cry Baby leaned in and embraced him sweetly. She should know what people want when they cry.
"It's okay. It'll be alright."She rubbed his back as he sobbed on her shoulder, whispering comforts into his ear. He eventually pulled away and wiped his eyes with his sleeve.
"Sorry.""You're apologizing to me of all people for crying? Is this a joke?" Cry Baby said, and a soft chuckle followed as she tried to lighten things up, even though it was clear neither of them were in cheery moods.
"Can I talk to you?" Blurry asked."I was going to ask you the same thing. Let's go to that cute little bench by the lake. You know, the place we went the first time you saved my ass?"
Blurry laughed awkwardly and nodded.Neither of them said anything, something they had gotten used to doing. A real friend is somebody that you don't need to say a word to, and they understand you and the silence isn't uncomfortable.
Eventually, they reached the bench. Thankfully, nobody was there, so they could talk candidly and personally.
"So..." Cry Baby began, "who would care to share about their awful day first?"Blurryface said nothing.
"Okay, sorry. What's the matter?""Remember when you asked me about happy memories of my past?"
Cry Baby nodded, wondering where this was going."Yeah, well... I don't really have happy memories of my past. At all. I mean, I did, but none of them meant anything because there was one day where I... I became who I am. I became Blurryface. I hurt the one person keeping me on my feet. I broke."
"Why are you sharing this with me now?""It happened at my high school. I ran into my principal yesterday. He's here in town. I went to high school in Ohio, and he's in New York for some reason. And that night... I just relived everything. It was scary."
This was quite possibly the most Blurryface had ever spoken to Cry Baby.
Cry Baby nodded and it felt as if she waited a lifetime to build up the courage to ask one question.
"What happened?"And thus, he told her. He stopped many times, because he was choking up, and Cry Baby waited patiently for him to finish the story of Blurryface.
So this was the reason for all his doubts."Now I'm here," he concluded, "I've told you, Cry Baby - I don't help people."
"Blurry, I don't... I'm so sorry."Blurry scoffed. "Don't be."
After a long pause and long thought, Cry Baby took a huge breath."What does he look like? That principal?"
"I don't know. He's... big, wears suits. Brown hair around his head, but on the top, it's bald."
"Where did you see him?" She asked thus quickly, and it seemed to take Blurryface aback. "I'm just wondering because, I may have seen him today."
"A neighborhood. Down the path you always bike on past my apartment.""Okay. I think I saw him." She claimed with a nod.
How can silence be so painful to hear?It was as if somebody pressed the pause button on a remote, and the resume button suddenly stopped working.
It sounded like Blurryface had to strain his voice to try to break the silence."Why did you come to my apartment?"
"Let's just say I had a rough night as well."Blurryface didn't say a thing, but just stared at her waiting for answers.
"I come from a hopelessly broken home, to put it bluntly. My father is unfaithful, my mother is addicted to alcohol and god knows what else, and my brother..." she inhaled sharply before continuing, her breath shaking. "My brother stays in the basement producing cannabis."
"Oh, my gosh. That's... I'm sorry.""Let's both stop apologizing for things we have no fault in, deal? Just for a bit, please? Last night, my mother made a drunken mistake and revealed to me that my birth certificate says 'Cry Baby'. I thought that was a cruel joke from my piers but it was a cruel joke created by my own mom. I was told my name was Melanie. I like Melanie better than Cry Baby, so that was frustrating." She chuckled, but tears were making her eyes glisten like Christmas lights.
"Jeez, things kinda suck right now, don't they?" Commented Blurry."Yeah. Thing kinda suck right now."
