The pack seemed awful shaken by Shea’s death, even Troy. Seth had moved back halfway into a bush and was watching Skylar fall apart, well as much as a wolf could show it. Luna and Katie were sitting near Troy, who was staring at nothing, with their heads hung. I didn’t notice I was crying until Seth stood and pressed his side against me, and tears dripped on my arm. I wiped them away quickly, and threw my arms around Seth’s neck, smothering my face in his sweet smelling fur.

“Why did you tell me about you?” I whispered, sitting back up.

I thought you were special. His soft, almost shy voice echoed in my head.

I smiled, and stood streching my sore legs. Skylar was now crumpled in a depressed lump on the ground, no longer whining, or whimpering. If wolves could shed tears he would’ve shed enough to fill the Pacific Ocean. Not really, but you get the point. Seth sighed and rested his head on his paws. I walked over to Skylar and sat down next to him. As I rested my hand on his back, I felt him stiffen and eye me sadly. Seth had raised his head a warning flashing in his eyes.

Dawn, step away from Skylar.

He warned in my head. I slowly shook my head.

Now Dawn. He demanded, baring his teeth slightly.

He isn’t in the best of moods.

“So?” I said lightly staring Seth in the eyes.

I looked back over at Skylar and said softly,

“Hey Skylar, it’s gonna be all right,” His eyes flashed, but I kept going, “I lost my father when I was ten. He was in a car accident.”

Tears came to my eyes but I wiped them away.

Dawn leave him alone now! Seth growled.

I glared at him, and turned back to Skylar. I put my hand on his soft, boney shoulder, and murmured,

“The pain will lessen as time ticks by, believe me.”

His eyes flashed as he sprung up, baring his teeth. I realized at that moment I should’ve listen to Seth because he sprung forward and landed on top of me. Before anyone could react blood was trickling down my arm into the dust. I looked at Seth, his eyes were filled with sadness, and pain. Luna, and Katie were both shocked, and Troy, his gaze was full of anger, but it wasn’t aimed at me, he was looking at Skylar. When I looked at Skylar his tail was between his legs, and his eyes were wide with the horror at what he had just done.

I was bitten.
