"Ahm", I turned around to see Jason walking towards me carrying a tray with two coffee mugs and two cup cakes. "I thought you would prefer sitting outside in the open area considering the weather is good today." He said and pulled out a chair of a nearby empty café table after placing the tray.
"Good thinking" I said, taking a seat opposite him. " so what did you bring me?"
"Oh! Do you want anything? Sorry I forgot to ask" he answered slyly.
"Oh good luck then, with finishing two cups of hot coffee in this summer heat", I said smugly and tried to stand walk off, which was a bad decision. Luckily before I could have touched the ground a pair of lean yet strong hands caught me, just in time. Three times in one day? I felt like this stupid accident has left me as the damsel in distress, and to say I didn't like the thought was an understatement.
My trail of thoughts and the judgment about my current state was broken by a small tap on my shoulder and I back to reality, a bit startled. I was sitting on the very chair from which so bravely I decided to storm off. How does it go so well timed in the movies? They must be taking a hundred takes. Or they might not be a sorry excuse of a clumsy person like you a voice in my head retorted. Well it was logical.
"Earth to Jennifer" Jason said "um... I was thinking can I use a nickname? As we're friends now your name is pretty long?"
"Are we...?", I looked at him with amusement and observed his expression turning solemn, "Oh my God! You look like a hurt puppy!" I said laughing hysterically at his expression as he realized I was kidding.
"Ha! Very funny!" he said, now back to his jolly self, "Can I call you Jen?", he said scratching the back of his neck. No one ever calls me Jen. My friends and family always call me Jenny and I like it, but who cares. It's a pet name after all.
"Go ahead," I said eyeing the delicious looking cupcakes sitting untouched on his tray, that seemed to be calling my name. "Just say you want it and its yours" He said smirking.
"Do you admit that the other drink was for me?" I smirked back at him.
"Okay Okay, don't want another one of those dramatic episodes do we?"
"You are mean"I said hitting him lightly. But immediately pulled back. How was I getting so comfortable around him, so fast? He didn't notice, or if he did, he ignored it. I was thankful for either.
"So I thought of getting you one of those creamy frappachinos but then I recalled that you are not that sweet, so you probably like something on the bitter side. So, I got you an espresso! You can totally have something else if you want, just let me know".
"That's a conclusion from hell! Nothing added up, but somehow, you're still correct" I said , "Wait! Did you just call me a bitter person?" I said with a horrified look. I was indeed a little hurt that he thought that, but then I knew where he was coming from. None our conversations have exactly been 'polite' or 'sweet'.
"No, I just called you not...sweet", he said trying to cover up. Seeing him struggling made me feel guilty so I waved off the topic quickly.
"And what about these cupcakes?"
"Something to give you a little, sweetness?" he said, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. He looked a little embarrassed bringing the topic back.
