Chapter 10 : The Fall

We reached home much before estimated time as the traffic was quite clear. As I turned around to inform the passengers, I found that all of them were dozing off. Diana was propped against her mother' shoulder, at the back seat, while Mrs. Halsey was napping too. Nick, in the shotgun seat, was leaning against the window and was sleeping peacefully with an open mouth.

I really didn't want to interfere with their sleep but I had to. I stirred Nick hoping he would wake up.

"Oh please Ana let me sleep a little longer...just a li'l...." his voice was barely a whisper.

"I'm Jenny not Ana."

"Oh how I want it to be such..how badly I want it to be Jenny. But we don't get what we want, do we?" his eyes were still closed and I couldn't make head or tail out of what he was speaking.

"What!" my voice was little above the limit of what could be called soft, and thus the result. I sensed movement at the back seat and guessed they were awake. Nick stirred a bit before opening his eyes wide.

"Did I say something?" he asked looking lost.

"Nah! We're here thought I should wake you guys up and stop you from drooling all over my to-be car's window."

"I don't drool"

"Yes you do"

"Stop your bickering guys. Have we reached?" Ana asked.

"Yeah sleeping beauty, how was your beauty sleep?" I said with a tinge of tease.

"Haha! Very funny", she fake laughed.

"Hey! What's up with being grumpy pants. Been long since I last saw you like this"

"Don't annoy her right now...it could be disastrous, catastrophic,.."and i stopped him droning on further.

"OK, I get it Mr. Dramatic"

We got off the car and entered my house only to be engulfed into a delicious smell coming straight from the kitchen from where my mother emerged with a warm, welcoming smile on her face. She greeted the guests and then she went away with Mrs. Chase to show her the room she will be staying while I directed Diana and Nick to follow me.

We had just two guest rooms and so I was going to share my room with Diana. Nick got the guest room upstairs all to himself.

After leaving them in their privacy for them to rest and freshen up, I went to the living room to make a call to Audrey to inform of the new member in our group.

"Hey Ry! Can we have one more pirate aboard?"

"Aye Aye captain", an overly joyous Audrey answered. "But, who is it?'

"Someone I never expected to show up but am really happy to host." I said with an unusual cheerfulness. "Do you remember, I told you about Nick Goldman, my closest childhood friend?"

"Ooohhh!!! Is he HOT?"

"Hah! Don't think I should answer that. Anyway you are going to meet him right, so evaluate yourself." I can almost see Audrey rolling her eyes.

"Fine! I was thinking Jason might be uncomfortable in an all girls company, so I hope this news will cheer him up. Besides I think he might be friends with Nick. After all they attended the same high school right?"

"Maybe! Am not sure about that though. Anyway how are we going to the Main Street?"

"I thought maybe you can drive your friends to my place and from here we can all go in my car."

"Seems like a plan. We'll be there by 6:15, I guess. Nick and Ana need to rest for a bit and freshen up. Traveling by bus can be a real pain, so duh!"

"Yeah! I know, just be as quick as you can, I'll be waiting and don't you come up with any stupid reasons to bail on me or drown my spirits"

"Believe me, I'll try my best to be on time. Besides I am excited for the trip too."

"OMG! record this date! Miss Jennifer is excited for something! Would be the first day in the history!" now it was my time to roll my eyes. " stop rolling your eyes" OK! so maybe that's what knowing each other means.

"One last thing! please bring your camera. Am gonna have some fun after a really long time."

"God! just one trip and I get to see so much of your hidden self...got it. And besides don't wanna get your spirit down when you are finally excited for something", she said.

"Ok! GOT IT. Gotta go, bye"

"See ya"

After about 45 minutes I was standing outside the guest bedroom and was about to knock when suddenly the door burst open.

"Lets go" Shouting loudly an overly ecstatic Nick dashed out of the door and running wildly bumped into me and we both toppled down.
