Prisoner [on hold]

Prologue

Sweat ran down our faces as we sprinted toward the hills. Just a few more miles and we'd be home. I could see the end as we stumbled along. Up ahead was our freedom.

I turned around to see if we had lost them. That was a mistake. I tripped and fell, and on my way to the ground I realized we weren't going to make it.

"Go on without me!" I yelled at him, knowing that I was the one who they wanted most. He refused and began to drag me along, fighting them off as we went...

You're probably wondering how we got here. It's a little complicated, so try and keep up. It all started when I crossed the border, not knowing what lay ahead of me. As I walked down the narrow road that lead to civilization, I saw an explosion off in the distance. I started to walk off the path when I heard my friend, Michael, coming up behind me.

"Where are you going?" he asked, almost sarcastically.

"None of your business," I replied, trying not to sound too rude about it.

"Wherever you're going, I'm coming with you." 

"Why do you always have to be such a rebel?"

"You're asking me? You're the one crossing the border! If we get seen, they're going to kill us!"

"Whatever." I said, rolling my eyes at him. "I saw an explosion over there and I'm going to investigate."

"I'm not letting you go without being prepared for whatever could happen. Let's mark the path toward the explosion and go get some supplies first."

"Fine," I said in agreement. We turned back to the trail and marked the direction of the explosion. As we crossed back over the border, I started to think of supplies that we would need to take.

Once we had made our way to the supplies shed, we started to fill backpacks with necessary things. When my backpack was filled, I armed myself with my bow and sheath of arrows. Michael armed himself with a few knives and a dart launcher. I also grabbed a tent knowing we were going to be gone for a while. We hid our backpacks and weapons, planning to meet up after our village was asleep.
