Chapter 2

I can't help but see the look on my brother's face, he is on the verge of crying.

I look around me to see all eyes on me. The best dressed person around me. The spoiled. I bet everyone in District 6 can't wait to see me get slaughtered in the arena.

I step out into the isle and walk towards the stage. I get a glimpse of Lilly's face as I walk to the stage and even she is shocked.

"Daniel!" I hear a yell from the crowd.

Right in the isle is Serenity being held back by Peacekeepers. They carry he away to where I can't see her. Praying they won't do nothing to her I look at Crown who has been talking the whole time and I didn't realize. I nod acting like I heard.

"Shake hands." Crown says as i lean over to Lilly and shake her hand.

I am escorted to the side of the Justice Building by 4 Peacekeepers. I stop in my tracks, making them stop. "Where is she." I say as they try to push me on.

"Where is she!" I yell and one of the Peacekeepers looks at me.

"She is being taken back to Victor's Village, she will be completely safe there. But if you decide to give us a hard time, we can make her pay your price." The Peacekeeper says beginning to move.

I follow them into the side building and stand looking at the door of the building when I walk in, Dean is already standing there.

"Listen, I've taught you some bow. Find one, make one. Run to the middle. I don't care what no one else says. Run to the cornucopia. It will be very scary but I wouldn't be here if I didn't. You hear me?" Dean says with a straight face.

I nod and walk into his arms hugging him, crying.

"Don't cry. Don't come off weak." He says looking down at me.

"Don't show the GameMakers what your good at! They will take advantage of you, okay?"

"I-I love you." I say to him stuttering.

Two Peacekeepers come in and grab him by the arms pulling him out.

Before the door closes I hear him yell something but he couldn't finish it.

I look at the door waiting for someone else to come, but the only person who does is Crown. She has already got Lilly in her hand and she grabs for mine.

"Come on you two! This is my favorite part!" She says with a huge smile on her face.

This disgusts me.

She walks us to the train that will carry us to the Capitol.

Me and Lilly don't look at each other at all. We both look straight ahead on the train, not talking, two people come in. My neighbors.

"Hello!" says Julie, as Tom follows in from behind them.

Julie Burrow, The victor of the 57th Hunger Games.

Tom Stevens, The victor of the 49th Hunger Games.

I loom at them and lift my hand inferring "Hi." but Lilly sits there in silence.

"I will be your mentor, Lilly." says, Tom.

"And I yours," says Julie looking at me.

"Well, Let's me and Daniel go to a different room. This way Daniel!" Says Julie, I get up and follow her into a room filled with goodies. We sit across from each other and I look at her.

I never really talked to Julie before but my brother did, he said she was nice.

"Where's my brother." I say looking her dead on.

"Due to Capitol laws, If a tribute is related to a mentor then they must not come along to the Capitol." She says looking down.

I don't phase, then I look down.

"Look, I am so terribly sorry this happened to you, I know how it feels. I was your age when I got drawn. I was terrified but if we just try and make the best of it, it will work out. I promise. I mean look at me, I'm here aren't I?" Julie says smiling.

"Make the best of it..? The best of this! How it's just another year and it's just 23 more tributes dead! There is no best of it!" I yell at her excusing my self walking to the bathroom.

I pass Crown. "Hello Dan-" I walk right past her and I here her mummer behind me, "How rude."

I roll my eyes opening the bathroom door and i look in the mirror and cry. The crying doesn't stop until I can hear the party in the Capitol.

I step out of the bathroom drying my tears and look outside the closest window on the train.

Thousands of colors flash before my eyes. The Capitol is gorgeous. Gold everywhere, This is better than Victor's Village.

I see a lot of fingers pointing at me with huge smiles and screams.

I smile a little because this is so ridiculous but I wave at some of them and see a girl pass out. I feel like I'm famous. I wave at several and point on a charming smile. I look to my right and i see Lilly doing the same thing behind me.

Then I realize, These Games have already begun.
