Chapter 7

Training and punishment.

I woke up at five o'clock the next morning. Not because I was woken up just because that's when I always wake up. I got dressed put on combat gear (I still didn't trust these people completely.) and when to find the kitchen. I found the kitchen and walked in. It was fairly large but not as large as I thought it would be. I grabbed cinnamon toast crunch a jug of milk a bowl and a cinnamon roll. I walked back to my room and prepared to eat when I heard a knock on the door. It was Ethan.

"Time to go to training." He said in a gruff tone gesturing me to come with him. I held up my first finger signaling him to give me a second. I reached back grabbed the cinnamon rolled shoved half in my mouth and followed him out. We walked down the halls until we can to what looked like a shooting range. The other five were already there. There was five tables set up with many weapons among each. There also was a line a bunch of targets set in the distance some were shaped like people some were just circles.

"You are here so that we can assess your skill with ranges weaponry." Said Connor. He gestured at me to take any weapon I would like. There was some many weapons. Assault rifles, automatics, pistols, rifles, throwing knives you name it they had it. I looked around from table to table until I came to what was the hardest weapon by far, and I knew from experience, the throwing knife. I picked up a set of five and tested there weight and heft. As I stepped up to the shooting line to the target I heard a snicker from one of the five.

I took one of the knives from the sheathed pulled my arm back and threw. There is a reason I said the throwing knife was the hardest weapon. You have to make sure it lands blade down, it can only go as far as you throw it, and each one has a slightly different weight or grip. The knife flew straight into a human shaped targets head burying itself up to the handle. It was a bit lower than I had wanted it to be but that what happens when you practice with only one weight of knife.

I heard the door open behind me. I turned around and saw John walk in. The others scrambled to grab weapons before rushing to the line. John gave me a strange look before looking at the others and their hastily grabbed weapons.

"Today we will be practicing with assault rifles first," John paused as everybody put down the weapons they had grabbed and grabbed a rifle. I got an AK-47 walked back to the line and lifted it up on my shoulder.

"There will be something different though." He continued as he pulled six vests out from behind his back.

"There will be two teams, both will be on the course. The goal is to hit and quote on quote kill the other team." John said. Everybody came and grabbed a vest. "The. Teams will be Caleb vs everybody else." Of course I knew I would be getting punished. "But Caleb gets two more weapons of his choice." John finished gesturing me to grab from the table. The others all ran onto the field to get ready. I pulled out my .44. John reached out and emptied the real bullets out replacing them with something that looked the same. Then I walked over and grabbed the throwing knife belt. I walked out on the field and immediately I was getting shot at.

"HOLY SHIT!" I shouted as the bullets were whizzing around me. "Do I get any time to set up?" I yelled up at them.

"Nope!" I heard Ethan shout down at me.

"Fuck you to then!" I shouted back while rushing behind a small barricade. The bullets slammed into where I had ducked behind. In my rush to find a hiding spot I had ducked behind a pile of old beat up bricks. There was dust flying up and the sounds of the bricks breaking and shattering.

The barricade wouldn't take much more of this. I sat up on my knees pointing my gun over and looked who was over there, it was Connor and Ethan. They both had high powered assault rifles spraying down on me. I though about it, if two were over there and there was five. They were going to surround me. I threw the rifle strap on back back and burst out to the east side of the field away from those two. I rounded a hill to where I knew an abandoned building was and saw Rebecca running towards me. She had his head down but she looked up and saw me.
