We are about to lose her.
Maine and Richard Faulkerson Jr. stared at their daughter, Charmaine Faulkerson, who stood at the altar with the love of her life. She was surrounded by brightly colored flowers, though they paled in comparison to her.
Charmaine was wearing a light, ivory, strapless ball gown with a dramatic pleated tulle skirt. The gown was accented by silk flowers down the back and a silk bow at the waist. It was a work of art even more so when their daughter was wearing it.
Maine could still recall the look on RJ's face when he got his first look at their daughter. He sucked in his break breath before breaking down in tears.
"Psst, Menggay," RJ whispered to her.
"Ano?" she whispered back.
"Magbabago pa kaya ang isip ni Chari? Ipapahanda ko na ba ang kotse?"
Maine slapped him slightly on the arm.
"Ikaw talaga!"
"Bakit?" RJ shrugged.
Maine shook her head in exasperation. "Maawa ka naman kay Ethan oh! Kabado na nga iyung tao eh."
They both turned to look at Ethan who was wearing a crisp black tux and traditional black shoes. He was sweating bullets, looking back at his father who kept on smirking at him.
"Kasalanan ito ni Jerald eh," RJ muttered under his breath.
RJ shook his head sadly.
"Uy! Ritsard," Maine poked his chest with her finger. "Bakit ganyan ang mukha mo? Ayaw mo ba talaga kay Ethan?"
"Hindi naman sa ganun."
"Eh bakit ka nagdra-drama ngayon?"
"She might love us less," RJ admitted.
"RJ, I understand.
The people around them shushed so Maine moved closer to RJ.
"Ayan tuloy! 'Wag ka ngang maingay."
"Ikaw kaya nagsimula," RJ protested.
Maine pinched his cheeks lightly.
RJ pulled away from her and straightened his clothes.
Maine shook her head at his childishness. She opened her mouth to speak but stopped when she realized that that her daughter and son-in-law were already exchanging their vows. It was as heartfelt as the ones they delivered all those years ago.
Oh, how time flies. Maine thought to herself. I'm glad that my daughter finally found the man who made her smile like that.
Once the priest gave his last words, she nudged her husband's shoulder with a playful smile and he let out a hearty chuckle.
It was a start.
