Chapter 1
The wind whipped my raven locks around my face as I observed the carriges taking students to Hogwarts. I forced my feet to move as the memories tried to batter at my defences. I couldn't let them break through not if I wanted to talk to Dumbledore today.
The iron wraught fence loomed into sight gaurding the gate was Hagrid, a friendly half giant that I got to know very well in my years at Hogwarts, while I was a Gryffindor.
"Who goes there," he boomed.
"It is I, Hagrid," I replied in a steady voice, "No need to worry."
"Merlins beard, is that you Layla," I haven't seen you in nearly fifty years. It's been to long."
He quickly opened the gates and gripped me in what would have been a bone-crushing hug if I was human. I'm not.
"I missed you to," I replied some of my defences cumbling at the sight of him. He was one of my only friends here and for that he deserved what I could not give others. Affection. "I'm sorry Hagrid I've been busy. This is not a social visit I must speak with Dumbledore right away."
"Course, course Filch can fill infor me can't you," the last part was direscted towards a gaunt looking man with a cat weaving around his feet that I had not noticed before.
How stupid of me, I let my guard down at the sight of Hagrid. I couldn't let that happen agian, the last time that happened- no I can't think about that right now.
Once Filch nodded in agreement Hagrid walked along the dirt path towards Hogwarts with me following behind albiet a bit more graceful.
No matter how many time I saw it I could not get over how amazing the castle looked. The last time I saw it was my graduation. My eyes were probaly no longer there original black but a deep blue from the pain of memories. Shaking my head I used my unnatural speed to catch up to Hagrid, who was already opening the front doors and heading down a corrider.
"What do you need to speak to Professor Dumbledore for," he asked.
"It's about my brother."
Hearing that he wisely decided not to continue questioning and simply said the password, 'lemon drops' to the gargoyles and headed up the steps.
Just as I remebered Dumbledore sat at his desk with Fawkes, the red pheonix behind him.
With his blue eyes twinkling he said, "Well, Well if it isn't one of my old students Layla Marvolo Riddle."
