Jess in the picture above.^ :)
Very important note: I will be using quotes for Jess even though she is talking in sign language! I will basically be telling you what she is saying except imagine her making the signs with her hands.

Jess' POV

I woke up to a loud thump near my legs. Ouch! What in the world was that? I look up to see my best friend Madison grinning like crazy at me right after she just pounced at me.

"What do you want?" I moved my hands while rolling my eyes. This girl was seriously too happy for her own good. I mean who can be this happy at 10 in the morning?

"Well hello to you too sweetheart. We're going out for coffee remember? Today's our coffee date!! How do you forget this we do it almost every week.. " Crap. I totally forgot. But it's not a surprise, I mean I always do. I guess I'm really forgetful like that.

I decide to just get up and get ready for this coffee date. I mean I never can say no to coffee. I hopped into the shower and ran my hands through my thick black hair. My hair was super weird, it wasn't thick in a cute way, it was super fat.

After washing and drying my hair, I picked out an outfit. I decided to wear a cute off shoulder top. It was light blue and exposed my tan shoulders. I paired that with some black jeans and some ankle boots. Yes I know, I actually attempted looking cute today. I threw my hair into a bun and grab my sunglasses and wallet as I headed out the door.

Maddie and I made our way to the coffee shop. She drives me almost everywhere. I don't even have a car and I haven't got my drivers license. I've always wanted to drive, but I'm scared too. It probably wouldn't be a smart idea to either. I'm deaf and mute, so I probably wouldn't be very aware of all my surroundings.

I lost my hearing and voice through an accident when I was 14. It's been 6 years, but I still haven't quite recovered. I mean I feel like I wouldn't have felt this bad if I was just born as a deaf-mute. I guess if I didn't have those two senses in the first place, I wouldn't miss them as much.

I'm suddenly snapped out of my daze when Maddie taps my shoulder. She starts mouthing something to me. I try to make out what she says. "What are you thinking about?" I shrug my shoulders. I've become really good at reading lips over the years. It helps because since most of my family and friends are so used to talking they sometimes forget that I can't hear. They end up saying stuff to me and I have to try and make it out.

We finally reach the coffee shop. The car comes to halt, and I step out grabbing my wallet. The cafe is literally called "The Coffee Shop" and I guess that's what I love most about it. It's exactly what it is. No hidden messages, everything straight to the point.

Maddie orders my usual drink and we sit and talk in sign language. People occasionally stare and then pretend they weren't staring the whole time. It used to annoy me but I guess I'm used to it. Some of them are probably trying to guess which one of us is deaf - me or Maddie.

I decide that my coffee is tasting a little bland so I get up to take some sugar. As soon as I get up I bump into a hard wall spilling my coffee over me and the wall. I look up to see a handsome stranger. Forget that, a very handsome stranger! He had dark hair and dark eyes, an extremely well built body, and just everything about him was perfect. Except for one thing. The anger filled in his eyes. It took me a moment to realise my coffee had spilled on him as well.

I wanted to apologise through signs but then I realised he would know I was mute and immediately feel sorry for me. And for some strange reason, I didn't want that. I mouthed a sorry to him while he stared at me. His expression seemed shocked. Has no one said sorry to him before?

"You're beautiful," his lips read. I was shocked. Perhaps I read them wrong? I guess he read the expression on my face because he repeated it again. "You're absolutely beautiful." Yep I definitely read that right. I simply smiled, not knowing what else to do.

"What's your name?" I began to panic. I looked over to Maddie for help, and she immediately got the message. She walks over to me. I read her lips as she tells the stranger we should get going. She then pulls me away before he could reply.

"Thanks," I say in sign. Maddie replies with a nod. She has become fairly well at sign language. I've been friends with her since we were in grade 3. She's been with me through thick and thin, and that would include my accident. She tried her hardest to learn all the signs after so she could talk to me no matter what. I love her so much, it's unexplainable.

I still couldn't stop thinking about that stranger. He was definitely easy on the eyes. He seemed really sweet and flirtatious.

Maddie dropped me off at home before heading home herself. I headed into my own apartment. I plopped myself down on my couch. I decided to turn my T.V. (with subtitles) on to distract myself, but my mind kept wandering to that one person.

The handsome stranger.

I wasn't usually like this. But I was upset. He clearly seemed interested in me, even if it was for that mere second. Maybe if I had my voice and my hearing I could've got to know him. We could've sat down and ordered two new coffees. We could've exchanged names and numbers and got to know each other. We could've went on our first date, and then our second, and one thing led to another, we would've been dating.

I snapped out of my daze realising I was overreacting and he might've not even been that interested anyway. My imagination was wild. But it was pretty much all I had. I couldn't help but wonder how the situation would've went if I could speak to him.
