August 30, 2012

Oddly enough, the first of my friends to visit me in college was Jenna.  She called me on a Friday to see if it was a good time to come visit.  I told her it was a great time, thinking she would come within the week.  I got a knock on my dorm door a few hours later.

            “Jenna?” I gasped.

She replied by yelling and propelling herself onto me in a hug.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” she beamed.  “You just said it was okay.”

“Yeah, emphasis on the just said,” I laughed.  “I thought you’d come next week or something.  Seeing as how I thought you were in Australia and all.”

“Oh, right,” she said airily.  “I was actually in England a few days ago, visiting with the boys.”

She said it really casually and I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.  I loved everything about college and I was fitting into the college life swimmingly.  But if I wasn’t in college, I would have been in England as well.  I would have visited with the guys.

“How are they?” I asked.  I swear, I tried to sound conversational, but her face softened and her smile faltered slightly.

“They’re good,” she nodded.  “Funny you should ask.  You were the topic of most of our conversations.”

“Doubt it,” I grinned, appreciative of her efforts.

“Seriously,” she smirked.  “Why do you think I hopped on a plane as soon as the guys left?  I miss you.  We all do.  Everyone else would have jumped on that plane with me if they didn’t have school and tours and whatnot.”

“I miss everyone, also,” I sighed.

“Tell me about college!” she burst.  “Where’s your roommate?”

            “Class,” I said.

“It’s almost eight in the evening,” Jenna frowned.

“She’s taking a lot of units,” I winced.  “She’s always busy.”

“Is it weird rooming with a fan?”

“I thought it might be, but so far so good.  She’s too busy to really care about all that.”

“That’s convenient.”  She let her luggage fall at the foot of my bed and then jumped onto my bed.  She wiggled around until her back was against the wall.  She patted the spot beside her and I joined her with a smile.  “Go on then.  Tell me all about college.”

I would much rather have talked about the boys and what they were up to and how they were, but Jenna seemed so interested in me and my life and it was just so nice having someone from my “other” world with me.

So I told her all about orientation (still leaving out the bit about the fraternity house) and she seemed skeptical about Conrad.  I told her I had been skeptical as well, but I had seen him around campus a few times since then.  He was always nothing but friendly to me, but he never really acted like he did in orientation.  He was always with a hoard of his fraternity brothers or with at least one stunning girl.  Normally he was with a few stunning girls at once.  It was like the night at the fraternity house never happened so I was glad I never mentioned it to Niall.
