Humans were filthy creatures. I mean, what other species would kill and commit such violent acts against one other without probable cause? That is the reason I couldn't understand why so many young supernaturals were so obsessed with them.
Many had used the violent creatures to warm their beds and others had even professed love for those vile beings! I didn't believe in love and there was no way in hell I would ever confess to loving such a destructive being. My thoughts were interrupted by my mother's melodious voice."Z honey, come downstairs."
I almost snorted at her request, but, lazily, I scooted out of my bed and took one last look back at Ari. He was my latest lover. Ari was a feisty and petite vampire. He would make a good mate if I were interested in anything more than sex.
I walked down the stairs and into the throne room, meeting the eyes of my mother and her drudges. My mother was the most powerful Luna and she was in charge of the largest and most powerful pack in the states. She ruled her kingdom with an iron fist and steel claws.
Her drudges curled at her feet and my face scrunched in distaste. I had always hated servants and slaves and I couldn't understand the point of having someone do everything for you when you could get off of your tail and do it yourself."What did you want mother? Why have you called me here?" The corners of her mouth lifted into a smile and my blood instantly ran cold.
"You're to take my place as Luna and become alpha of this pack. The crowning ceremony will take place on your 21st birthday and as is custom, you will be required to choose a mate to help you lead." I sneered in disgust at the mere mention of a mate. I had no intention of ever getting married.
"Mother I cannot find a mate on such short notice, you kn-"
"What about that boy you've got in your bed? Aristotle was it?"
I grimaced and nodded. "He prefers to be called Ari, mother, and we are just friends."
"Friends do not share your bed as lovers do. If you want to rule this kingdom as I do, you need to grow up."
I growled at her and bared my teeth. "I'll surely grow up mother. Around the same time you stop trying to control my life." I walked away briskly, tearing off my clothes angrily and shifting into my wolf. I had no business being here. This wolf would never become alpha if I needed a mate to do so.
