Zero
My wolf shook the water out of his fur as he crawled out of the river bank to the dry land. I sighed as I pushed my wolf back a little, listening to the sounds in the air and feeling the strength in my altered body. The forest smelled heavenly today. The scent of wet leaves and earth filled my nostrils. Suddenly my ears twitched as I heard a scream and I bolted off in that direction.
When I arrived at the location of the scream, my eyes widened at the bloodied human curled up against a dead demon. Had this weak imp of a human done this? My blood boiled at the thought and I growled low in my throat, my ears pinned back flat against my head and the human stared up at me blankly."If you want to kill me, I wish you wouldn't try. I don't want to get even messier with your blood."
If I were in my human form my mouth would've dropped at his threat. I elongated my claws and pounced for the child, a loud growl ripping from my throat.
The human ripped the knife out of the demon's throat and charged at me, grabbing at my neck and wrapping his legs and arms around my neck. I snapped and snarled, twisting my body this way and that, trying my hardest to bite the human. He stabbed the knife repeatedly into my side and I yelped, confused as to how this human was beating me. He dropped me back down and I curled up in my human form, unable to hold my wolf form.
The human approached me and lifted my head up in his hands and just as he was about to snap my neck, I heard a suffocating gasp and a gurgling and looked up. My mother was holding the human by his neck and squeezed a pressure point, making him fall limp in her arms."Mother I-" I choked out. She bared her teeth at me and I clamped my mouth shut.
"This human almost killed you. Are you really that weak son?" I growled at her statement.
"I am not weak mother and that can be no ordinary human! He took down that demon over there by himself and demons have magic to help them defend themselves. There is something wrong with that human!" My mother looked down at the human in her arms and dropped him on the ground next to me.
"Carry him back with us as punishment. I have plans for this extraordinary human."
I grunted as I lifted the human over my shoulder, already feeling my wounds begin to close, and followed my mother back to the palace. I dropped the boy at my mother's feet as soon as she sat down on her throne. She quickly told her drudges to chain up the boy and I watched as they attached a chain collar to his neck. They attached the chains all around his body as well, cuffing his arms behind his back and his ankles together. I'm sure the drudges thought chaining a human up this much was unnecessary but it seemed to barely be enough to hold him. My mother smiled at me and I watched her.
"I know you refuse to pick a mate so I've chosen a suitable young man and lady for you. You will pick the best partner from the two of them." My mouth dropped in shock and I growled.
"I would rather die than have a mate!" My mother laughed at me.
"It would seem this marvelous human was trying his hardest to see to that." I grit my teeth at the thought and looked down at the floor.
"I told you the human wasn't natural, mother." My mother smiled at that.
"Then he'll be perfect."
"Excuse me?"
"The boy will be your personal bodyguard. He'll accompany you on your journey to meet both of your suitors."
"I don't need a pet mother! I can take care of myself!" She snorted at me.
"This 'pet' almost killed you! He will be a good servant and guard. Besides he is cute and I'm sure you will have no problem bringing him to bed."
"He's a human mother! I have no want for him in the slightest!"
"I'll protect your son ma'am." My mother and I quickly turned our heads in the direction of the chained up human.
"I don't need your protection." The boy's tongue came out of his mouth and wet his drying lips and my mother waved her fingers at her drudges. They quickly unchained him and I grimaced.
"Come here child." The boy walked over to my mother and she elongated her nails into claws. He took a step closer, fear nowhere to be seen in his eyes. She swiped his face hard with her claws and his head jerked to the side. He uttered no sound and hung his head down, looking at his feet.
"You will protect my son and keep him from harm. If you hurt my son again I'll poke your eyes out and give you to the whore house to be used. Do you understand me?" He nodded and she smiled.
"Son, I want this boy cleaned and both of you will leave by tomorrow." I sighed. "You can take him to your bed chamber now." I swiftly walked away and the boy quickly followed behind me.
As soon as we had made it into my bedroom, I backhanded him as hard as I could. He flew back against the wall and looked up at me, wiping the blood from his nose.
"You tried to kill me."
"I told you not to try to kill me and you didn't listen." I growled at his remark and threw a towel at him.
"Go clean yourself up." His honey eyes looked up at me and he rubbed his nose again.
"Do you want me to clean the blood from your wound first sir?" I glared at him and tugged off my shirt. He seemed unfazed by my body as he quickly got to work, dabbing the blood off of my now fully healed side.
As soon as he was finished he got up, grabbed his towel and walked into the bathroom to take a shower. I decided to play a prank on my new human pet and flush the toilet while he was bathing himself. As soon as I went to open the door, I heard high-voiced, melodious singing coming from under the shower spray. It was beautiful and had my wolf whimpering and sighing at the beauty. Maybe if the human sang for me whenever I wanted, he could accompany me without any fuss.
