(picks up when Dark sees Steros coming out of the fire)

As he watched the figure slowly limp towards them, Dark placed a hand on the little human's head.

"Jason," he said, "I need you to stay right here behind this tree until I come back, okay?"

"Dark?"

He looked down at Jason and gave him the best smile he could muster, "Don't worry, my little human. I swore that I would protect you, right?"

Jason looked up at Dark with blue eyes that were once filled with tears; now, they showed a great fire, one that refused to burn out. Dark's smile grew as he rustled Jason's hair.

"Stay here," he said as he gently guided Jason back around the tree.

He then faced the man to see that he had stopped walking and was standing several yards away. Dark rushed at Steros, stopping short mere feet from him. He didn't even flinch.

Dark glowered down at him, a low growl rising in his throat, "What do you want, Steros?"

Steros kept his eyes downcast.

"Do you have nothing to say?" Dark shouted.

Steros then asked a question that took Dark by surprise, "Did he survive?"

Dark was taken aback and didn't answer at first, "Y-Yes, Jason is alive."

Suddenly, Steros started laughing! He wrapped his arms around his stomach and stumbled forward a little.

"All my work," he laughed, "gone! Everything destroyed by a pathetic little orphan boy!"

He finally looked up at Dark, and his eyes matched his madman laughter. Blood slowly trickled down his head, making him look even more deranged. Dark stepped back, horrified by how much of the monster he had known him to be was now showing!

"Where is the poor boy," he asked as he continued to walk towards Dark, "I thought I saw him back there."

"I won't let you near him," Dark replied, his voice shaking slightly.

"Give him to me!" Steros yelled.

"Never!" Dark growled and swiped at Steros, grazing his shoulder.

It didn't seem to scare him though since Steros just stumbled before continuing his approach. Dark kept backing away in fear of the madman, nightmares and memories flooding his vision.

"That boy is the cause of all of this! He'll pay for what he did to me, to my work, my life!" Steros reached into his coat pocket, "I don't care if he's a child, NOBODY stands in my way!"

Steros pulled out a small gun, the raging fire made the silver gleam in the night. Dark glanced behind him to see Jason standing by the tree, his expression mimicing Dark's fear.

"Jason!" Dark shouted.

BANG!

....He wasn't fast enough.

The shot echoed through the forest, the nighttime creatures scurried back to their dens in fright. Steros stood as expressionless as ever as blood and sweat ran down his face. Dark's eyes were wide, his mouth fell open from the scream that was caught in his throat.

Time seemed to slow as Jason fell to the ground.

"The worthless orphan can go join his parents in hell." Steros mumbled as he dropped the gun.

Something inside Dark snapped at that moment. All the unbridled rage pent up over all these years finally bubbled over. His teeth seemed to grow sharper, his claws longer, and the white fire in his eyes burned with the intensity of the sun!

In the blink of an eye he was face to face with Steros. With one swift motion, long black claws pierced through Steros' body, lifting him up into the air.

The fire behind them engulfed the whole building. It reflected in Steros' eyes, giving them life when one no longer existed behind them.

"You're the one who's going to hell," Dark growled.

He tossed the corpse onto the ground like a ragdoll, "Hope you're happy now, Steros...your monster is fully functional now."

When Dark turned around, he saw a human approaching Jason. He didn't even blink as he stopped the woman from getting any closer to his precious little human.

Dark kneeled beside the boy, his bloody hands carefully scooping him into his arms. A few shadow dogs approched him, their heads lowered, sensing Dark's despair and anger; although, they couldn't help but practically drool at the smell of blood.

A growl rose in Dark's throat, "LEAVE."

At this, the shadow dogs gave a breif howl before running in differnt directions.

Dark was left alone cradling the lifeless boy in his arms. Tears flowed down his face as he roared at the world in grief, screams of suffering and death resonating with him throughout the mountain range.
