Two thirty on Saturday morning, we were only just heading home. Everyone was absolutely wasted, except Stella and Bianca. Stella under the legal drinking age, and it took me a good ten minutes to coax her into the car to drop her off at home. Of course, because of the fact that she was to young to drink, she was also to young to drive. My best mate and Stella's brother, Robin, was driving, and he was the one who had drunk the most out of us all. There were seven of us; Cody, Lauchy, Danny, Bianca, Robin, Stella and myself, all crammed into Robin's five-seat convertible. The radio was on full-blast, despite the fact that it was some old Elvis Presley song. We all sang along dreadfully, and Stella begged for Robin to drive slower.
"It's ok babe, we'll be home soon." I slurred, moving closer to her, placing a hand on her thigh.
"Louis, don't." She said, pushing my hand away. I laughed as if her refusal was a joke, and sat back in my seat, smiling, and pulling her into a hug, holding her head onto my chest. She squirmed away from me and closer to Bianca, who had just recently had her eighteenth birthday, and tonight was the first time she'd ever drank anything alcoholic, and had only had two drinks, so she was much more sober than the rest of us.
"Leave her alone, Lou Lou." Bianca said, making her voice high-pitched, pulling Stella into a hug.
"Robin, stop." Stella said, pulling herself away from Bianca and crossing her arms.
"Why?" Robin asked, smiling at us through the review mirror.
"I'm going to walk home." Stella said. Right in the middle of the road, Robin stopped the car and Bianca opened her door. "Don't park in the middle of the fucking road!" Stella yelled, making us all laugh. Robin turned the car off completely and threw the keys to his sister.
"You drive, then." He said cockily.
"Robin, don't be a dick! You know I can't drive!"
"Don't tell me what to do then, stay in your seat and calm the fuck down." Robin said, taking his keys back, fumbling with the keys in the ignition. There was a sudden light from behind us, but a majority of us were to drunk to give a damn. Bianca and Stella began yelling at everyone to get out of the car, and Bianca jumped out of the car, still yelling, and ran to the side of the road. Stella grabbed my arm desperately.
"Please get out of the car!" She cried. The sound of a heavy car came closer to us. Closing her eyes, knowing it was to late for her to get out now, Stella cupped my face in her hands and spoke very quickly. "Louis I'm so sorry, I love you so much." She gave me a very quick kiss before she pushed me down so my head was on her chest and her hands wrapped around my head. Almost a second later, I felt the back of the car being hit with great force and I blacked out.
I woke up to find myself in a hospital, and I had been asleep for almost a week. I instantly understood what had happened, and cried as I was told I had been in a car crash. Robin, Cody, Danny and Lauchy were all dead, Stella was in critical condition and a coma, and Bianca was the one who had stood on the side of the road, trying to help us - the five idiots who were too drunk to listen to her warning. After the crash, Bianca ran back onto the scene, and called the ambulance as she ran to Robin, her boyfriend at the time, who had been flung five feet from the car, and pulled him onto her lap and cradled his head gently as he died in her arms. I was told that if it hadn't been for Stella protecting my head the way she did, I would have been dead, too. I remember having to learn to walk all over again, and after two months, I was aloud to visit Stella. She had just woken up, and I had been warned she may not remember me. I went in, believing it was impossible for her to have forgotten me. I raced into her room and asked her how she was, and she asked who I was. I was heartbroken, and the doctor followed me from her room, and explained that she had to remember me herself, otherwise she would suddenly remember her whole life from the past seven years, which could cause irreversible brain damage.
Stella held onto her dad's hand tightly. She didn't remember her mum - once Robin died, Stella's mum divorced her dad and practically vanished, she didn't visit Stella or anything, she had only cared about Robin. Her sister was already ahead of them, getting her plane ticket checked. Stella walked up to me for the last time, and for a second, I thought she would remember me, promise she would come back and visit me, or even forget about her moving away and simply stay with me forever.
"I want you to do something with your voice, you sing like an angel." She said with a smile, and although I enjoyed the compliment, it was no where near as nice as her telling me she remembered me.
"Thank you." I smiled fakely, and tried not to cry. I didn't want her to see me cry. When her plane took off, however, I let all of my tears go, thinking I would never see her again.
