It started as a simple cough and throat ache. Then, it mutated. Painful rashes and blistering was the first mutation, and scientists took notice and began production for a cure. After that, the skin became grey and moldy, and after that, scientists sped up the production and created a cure.
But one final mutation appeared: The disease lost its ability to be airborne, but the infected lost some brain function and extremely aggresive acts towards other humans, including biting, which, before humanity collapsed, scientists figured out that the bacteria can be spread through bites. The cure was quickly modified to cure a bite.
After the final mutation, the surviving military of each country went into hiding and each of their countries collapsed from the virus that they had called the "Zombie Virus" from the way it caused the infected to act.
And the only way to save yourself was the cure, which became rare because it stopped production after society collapsed.
But some 12% of people are born immune to it.
