After filling the car up and looting several houses, Harvey and Danielle started the car up and left the town.
December Road was close, but Stauntonville? That was a popular city, so it probably was filled with infected, and it was across the state.
But they decided to take the hour long drive to December Road. Along the way, they ran over infected, talked about life, and unbeknownst to them, attracted a horde of infected a couple of yards behind them.
They talked about lots of stuff in their conversations. Harvey talked about Dean, his neighbor, and how he had become infected. He left out the part where he got bit, though. That was sure to cause conflict.
He talked about how once Dean had built a slide for both of their daughters. It had collapsed as soon as they both slid down together, and the slide had collapsed in a way so that they went flying through the air. Dean's daughter Amanda had made a refrence to the movie Titanic. "I'm flying, Jack!", she had screamed after landing.
Both Amanda and Harvey's daughter Beth have grown up and moved out.
Danielle talked about how her college friends, who had been the ones that had called in on the radio, had set her form on fire when they woke her up for a surprise birthday. She had screamed because it had scared her and Jenny, the one holding the birthday cake, dropped the cake on the floor.
A candle set a t shirt on fire, and then the carpet got set on fire too.
When they finally got to December Road, they slowly drove around to find the gun store. When they pinpointed it down, they turned the car off and axed down the barricades on the door.
They cautiously took a step inside. An infected corpse lay on the ground with a bullet hole in it's forehead.
"George? Jenny? Paul?", Danielle called.
"Danielle?", called the voice that Harvey had heard from his radio.
"George! Where are you? Oh, and I've found another survivor."
"That's great, Danielle. Now, 2 things, do you have a flashlight and do you have a car?"
Harvey replied with, "Yeah, we've got both." He got his revolver out with it's taped-on flashlight, which he turned on.
George was a large man with a black jacket and jeans.
Behind him was a man and a woman. The man was really short and wore a janitor outfit with the name Paul written on a patch. The woman was tall and wore a grey shirt. Harvey guessed this must be Jenny.
But what Harvey was really interested in was the small stack of guns laying on a nearby counter. Next to it was a large supply of ammunition. "How are we gonna fit all that in my sedan? Its already got my supplies filling up the trunk and part of the back seat."
"That's simple. You got any gas?", Paul asked.
"Yeah, I filled my cans up just in case."
"There should be a bus outside. George was a bus driver and that is his bus."
"But doesn't it take diesel?"
"Just shut up and find it."
"Actually, I took the bus down the street, right next to that small town.", Danielle interrupted.
"Damn. Alright, we will sit in the backseat and hold the stuff until we can get to the bus."
They left the building and peered down the road. A horde of infected was coming their way. "Oh, Lord.", Jenny mumbled, shaking her head. "We're gonna die."
"We can do it. We can survive.", Harvey said. He had a plan.
"Let them chase me. You guys just pick them off."
"Harvey, if you get bit, it's over for you.", said Danielle.
"No, it isn't." Harvey said and unwrapped the bandage on his arm. All 4 fellow survivors jumped and Paul aimed a shotgun at him. "You've been bit. Take another step towards me and I'll shoot."
"Relax. This happened days ago. See? The blood is all dried, but you can see that it's a bite. The scientists found out that it only takes an hour to turn. I think... -Harvey gulped as Paul's trigger finger tensed- I think I'm immune."
George took a step forward. "He must be telling the truth. Remember that guy we got trapped in that building with and he got bit but didn't turn? I mean, yeah, he bled to death, but that happened after 2 hours."
Paul lowered his shotgun, but eyed him warily.
While they talked, the horde got even closer.
Harvey turned and ran into the horde, his revolver in one hand and axe in the other. He got as close as he could and then turned to run. They shambled after him quite faster than normal and Harvey had to pick off the first few behind him. After killing them with the axe, he aimed his pistol and fired as many shots as he could into the horde, reloading after realising that he was out of ammo.
Finally he reached into his pocket and found no ammo. He shoved the revolver in it's holster, took out his axe and charged into the horde. He swung the axe blindly, hacking at zombie after zombie, feeling fist after fist punch him.
He hit a hard, steel object, and turned to see an infected wearing a military helmet. He saw several others like it as well.
Harvey tried and tried to get the axe out of the helmet, but with the zombie still living and trying to kill him, it was impossible.
He frantically searched around for a weapon and found a steel pipe. He swung with all his might at the slowly advancing zombie. The helmet flew off and Harvey heard a loud metal clank. This distracted the infected soldier long enough for Harvey to bash his head in.
He heard shots in the background, and the advancing horde began to shrink quickly until finally the last of them was killed. Harvey looked for axe.
He found it, but the way the helmet had hit the ground had caused the metal to bend and dull. "I can just use the pipe.," Harvey thought.
The group silently hopped in the car, supplies stuffed inside.
They drove to the bus. George thought it was better to put diesel fuel in it so the rushed into the town, grabbed extra fuel cans and filled up the bus. They loaded supplies in it and they both drive off, the bus following the sedan.
Suddenly Harvey realised he forgot the cat.
"Do you have to get the cat?", Jenny groaned. "I raised him from a kitten! Of course I have to get him!", I exclaimed.
