Give It to Them

I knew how to hold up while fighting against James; and I knew how to slow him down. But that plan went to shit at the sight of a black vehicle coming. Groaning, I looked at the ledge of the bridge making a mental note of using it as my exit. I decided to wait for a few second to see how many would jump out of the car. I knew I could take on five plus James but any more would be too much. I knew well enough that the fewer who arrived, the more of a chance I had with James. And of course, life doesn't go according to plan as the sight of a second black vehicle appeared close behind the first. I glanced back at James, him closing the space between us.

"Jester," he growled out through the mask. You could really see how much of a caged animal they made him.

"Soldier," I said, not sure where he was going with this.

He stopped a good fifteen feet away, "We have a mission." I shook my head, the knots returned as I watched the man in front of me.

"No, we don't," I told him."

"Jester," he growled once more, his tone screamed anger.

"I'm sorry," I told him, "But I will help you." He charged me making me turn on my heels and dart to the side of the bridge. I felt his fingers trace the back of my hip as he tried to grab for me. But luck was on my side as I fell to the ground below. Twisting my body, I moved to land on my back and tucked my chin and legs in. A second passed and I felt myself collided with something that molded to my body. I took a breath before moving, noticing I had landed on the roof of a van. My eyes returned to where I had fallen from, James appearing to look over the edge at me. I huffed as I lifted myself up from the crater I made in the roof, my body aching almost instantly. But I was brought back to reality at the sound of a gunshot and the sight of a bullet hole right between my legs.

I didn't have to look back up to know who was shooting at me. I threw myself off the van and onto the ground, taking off down the street. All around me were a bunch of civilians either running and screaming like idiots, or frozen in spot like sitting ducks.

"Get out of the way! Move," I yelled, hearing the faint sound of Natasha's voice yelling the same thing.

"I'm going to need a gun," I yelled, hoping one of them had a spare and could hear me. I turned back around, seeing James down on our ground, the troops still up on the bridge shooting at us. The sound of metal scraping the ground grabbed my attention; and lying at my feet was a pistol with the magazine already loaded in it. I looked up in time to see Natasha ran by, James following her. I went to go after her until a bullet whizzed past my ear, making me fall back behind cover. I held the pistol up, taking the safety off. I took a breath before popping around the car and shooting up at them. The first two bullets missed since I hadn't handled the weapon in ages but the rest found their targets. I watched as the troops on the bridge dropped down behind the wall. Some I knew were going to be fatal, others were to disarm them. Flipping the safety back on, I took the moment and ran towards the direction of Natasha.

I noticed that James was now being confronted by Steve but Natasha had a troop overpowering her. With a closer look, I noticed her right shoulder stained a deep red, no doubt by James. My instincts took over as I got closer to her. I reached down, wrapping my arms around the troops neck and yanking him off her. He kept struggling, swinging his arms in an attempt to hit me, doing nothing but frustrating me. Why the hell do they have to squirm? They're trained to fight! This guy should know better than to just swing his arms like a rag doll. Without a second thought, the familiar sound of bones cracking sounded, the squirming troop falling lifeless in my grip. I dropped him, looking down at Natasha who was already staring at me. She gave me a nod and I turned my attention over to Steve.
