You Have Me

Dan kept his head down as he walked through the crowded halls. There was no point in looking up, he knew the only thing he would see was the faces of people he loathed. His dark my space aesthetic didn't fit well with the others around him and he was painfully aware but, this didn't stop him from slipping on a My Chemical Romance shirt this morning. The sly remarks from annoying kids in the halls were dulled as he approached his destination. The faded and chipped yellow lockers lined the walls were brightened at the sight of Phil. He was looking down at his phone, probably checking his instagram.

"Yo" I said as I approach. He looked up slowly from his phone, shoving it in the back pocket of his jeans. I smiled as I saw him push up his glasses to fit better on his face.

"Hey, wassup" He asked.

"Nothin. You still gonna come over later?"

"of course. I just have to go to one of my brothers games tonight but, I'll be over around 10:00."

"Cool, my mum is at some kind of work thing so we should be good."

"Okay see you then!" Phil said in his usually cheery voice.

"Bye Babe!" Dan said jokingly. He liked to play around and pretend they were a couple just to aggravate the homophobic staff and students. He sometimes wished that he didn't have to be joking... No! he's your best friend! He is straight and you are a guy. He has a GIRLFRIEND Dan! Dan thought to himself as he shoved every more-than-friendly feeling out of his mind.

Phil smiled back and turned the corner leading to his next class. Dan bent down to retrieve the things from his locker.

Dan dropped his backpack onto the messy floor and plopping down on the old couch in his small apartment. School was over in one week and after that all that was left was his senior year. He had yet to even start thinking what to do after high school for if he did, he would most likely start having an existential crisis. He sighed and pulled out his old phone to see if Phil had texted him. The only notifications left were of his email, probably just spam. He flipped to Pandora and turned on his favorite radio station.

The fridge was empty except for a bottle of salad dressing and yogurt from three years ago. Dan walked to the cupboard and pulled out a cup of ramen noodles from the 72 pack he had been living off of for about two months.

When he finished eating he remembered that Phil was coming over. He attempted to clean up his small room for his friend even though he knew Phil was used to it. He wanted it to be nice for him since he had just gotten home from his month long family vacation to his grandmas. They hadn't got a very good chance to talk since he got home the day before so, that morning when he saw him at school he asked him to come over that night.

He finished straightening out his black and white bed sheets and checked the time. Phil wouldn't be over for quite a long time more so he decided to get a start on his incredibly easy English homework.

It was 9:30 and Dan was just sending in the end of year essay that he had been putting off when he heard a hard knock on the door. He jumped up and went to the door. It was earlier than Phil said he would be over so he was a bit concerned. This uneasy feeling was heightened when he opened the door to a crying bruise covered Phil.

Dan encased the skinny boy in his small arms, he could see how hurt he was and that made his heart ache as well. He moved him into the bathroom and retrieved some ice. Phil was bawling as Dan started running the bath water.

"Who did this Phil?"

"I can't live there anymore Dan. I have nowhere to go."

"You have me."
