❝ hyung, when can we go home? ❞
mark almost choked on his own saliva upon hearing jisung's unexpected words. though, it was already strange enough that only jeno heard him knocking on the door.
" home? "
he still couldn't believe his ears. jisung was a good kid, he never questioned his family, though he knew deep down that he was abandoned somehow, but everyone else didn't bring the topic up at all because they were just the same. those words pained mark.
the orphanage became their only home. what was he talking about?
jisung nodded at his word, too sleepy to reply with anything else. his voice seemed forced and tired already, and he had been standing still for the past few minutes too. mark thought that he was losing his mind because of his lack of sleep, and so he took jisung to his bed right after.
jeno, who was still on the ground, hands still partially covering his ears, stared at jisung throughout his way, eyes never leaving him for even a second. right before jisung laid down on his bed, their eyes met.
and jeno let out a scream.
mark's arms fell from jisung's at the sound, eyes wide as saucers. there was something wrong with jeno; he never showed many signs of distress, he was always smiling his days away.
" h-hyung, d-don't touch-h h-him— "
his whole body was shivering, and mark quickly pulled a blanket over jisung and dragged jeno out of the room. when he shut the door from the outside, jeno's shivering immediately stopped.
" what happened? "
he shrugged as a reply, as though really nothing had happened. jeno seemed to return back to his calm, normal self again.
" i— " he seemed to zone-out completely after that, staring right into mark's eyes. " i don't...remember, hyung. "
" don't lie to me, jeno."
mark wanted to test if jeno was really back to his old self. he wouldn't get mad at him if he was. there was still something strange about how he kept his eyes glued on his, but he still let out a sigh of relief when he heard his respond:
" i really don't remember, hyung. "
and all of a sudden, footsteps were heard at the far end of the hallway, and mark grabbed onto jeno's arm and attempted to pull him back to his room before the caretaker catches them, but jeno shrugged his hand away.
" go first, hyung. i need to talk to mister. "
mark watched as jeno ran towards the caretaker, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion and wondering what he had to talk to him about. but started to head off to his room afterwards, anyway.
" hyung? "
a faint voice was heard the moment mark opened up the door of his room. he tilted his head back to look for the owner of the voice.
" jisung? you aren't asleep yet? "
jisung shook his head in reply. his eyelids were droopy, and something told mark that maybe he was forced to stay awake. he saw a tear run down his cheek, and despite all the pieces that didn't match up, mark embraced him in a tight hug.
" what's wrong, jisung? " he asked gently, as he felt his shirt turn a little damp.
though, he couldn't push away the strange feeling of jisung crying so silently. his sobs were just mere breaths, and his tears, like running water.
" hyung, i... i want to go home. "
