I woke up with the intense glow of the setting evening sun. The temperature of the room dropped by several degrees, and when I sat up, my hair was a mess and I could feel the dried drool by the side of my mouth.

I wiped it with the back of my hand, and settled by my favourite spot. I looked out of the window habitually.

I looked down, seeing that there was a bright red car parked by Connor's house. I didn't really want to know whose it was, although I had a pretty decent idea.

And my theory was proven correct when I saw Kelly Morgan walking out of the house with him by her side. He kissed her on the cheek and watched her as she drove away. I felt my stomach lurch and the involuntary tears pool in my eyes.

As his gaze rose, we shared temporary eye contact, until my heart squeezed and I looked away.

And for the next five minutes, I had a panic attack right there on the floor of my attic.

I hated myself.

I ran my fingers through my messy hair, and then opened the latch and jumped onto the bed, closing the door behind me. I stared up at the ceiling and then recalled the weirdest dream that I had in  my sleep. For once since the weekend, the land of dreams which I found myself in was one of bliss and happiness, instead of nightmares that everyone I loved and cared about was leaving me.

A nice thing in return.

I had dreamt of mine and Connor's wedding. It was stupid that I was thinking that I was ever going to even get back together with him. It was funny to think that I would even let anyone into my life anymore. But I guess it did happen already.

Not that I was going to allow it to happen again.

"Miranda, are you in there?" I heard a soft voice call out from behind the door.

"Go away, mum. I don't want to talk about it."

Mum being my mother, let herself in anyway. "Miranda, you have to talk about it. Locking yourself in your room in goodness knows where is not going to help with the situation."

"Go away, mum. I. Don't. Want. To. Talk. About. It."

"Miranda, I want to know what happened on Friday! Ever since you came back from that party, you've never been the same! All you ever do is lock yourself in your room and only come out when required! What happened between you and Connor and Derek?"

I squeezed my eyes shut and faced the wall, not wanting to be reminded of that night. The night of betrayal, I call it.

"Nothing happened."

"Something obviously did! Ever since then, you fell sick, without either Connor or Derek coming to ask about you! They're your best friends, Miranda, why wouldn't they be here?"

"Go away, mum!"

"No, Miranda! If you don't talk this out with someone, you'll never get this problem solved! I've been watching you for so many years, and I've never seen you happier in the past few weeks with Connor and Derek. I've never seen you smile or laugh or even talk so much!"

"Let it go, mum! I don't want to talk about it!"

"Mir-"

"Go away, mum!"

She sighed and then walked away. The only person I only ever wanted to talk to in my family was Terrence. But he had already left for soccer practice. I had no one, and there was no way I was going to tell mum what was wrong, because who knows? She might just sign me up for something stupid which forces me to make friends.
