The Bite (ON HOLD)

The Change

I woke up in a cave? It was very dark but I kind of liked it... the darkness was somehow comforting. I was just laying there.

I start to cough a lot and I spit black blood.. I didn't understand.

"Amber, you're awake, good."

I turn around and see a wolf just sitting there. She wasn't even talking to me.. Her mouth didn't move when she spoke.

I asked, "how are you talking to me?"

she responded, "When you are bitten.. The pack in which a wolf belongs to can speak to each other with our mind. We don't need to speak to communicate. A pack is more than just a group of wolves, were family and were bonded with each other. We are connected in a way nothing else is. like a tree in the ground..."

I look at her as she explains everything and it was very overwhelming.

"We are your family now. And that means we won't leave you behind. And your problems are ours as well."

I smiled at her. "You're Alba aren't you?"

she smiled back, "Yes, I am."

"You're very wise. Thank you for your hospitality but I should get back..." I try to stand up but my bones hurt too much. The ringing came back and when I tried to scream... something else came out... a howl. I howled... I couldn't believe it myself...

Jonah says, "Woah.... you howled?" i giggle, "yes i did." The other kids say, "Shhhh shut up Jonah! Can't you see the story is getting interesting?" Jonah growls at Fauna, "Whatever, she's gonna keep going!" Fauna snarls, "Shut up you idiot, I'm trying to hear!" A fight occurs, "jonah and fauna, please don't fight the story must go on, don't you want to hear what happens next?" i say in a wise tone. "I'm very old now and its hard for me to yell, please pups, settle down." They calm down, sit quietly and nod.

Okay now where was I? Fauna yells, "You howled!" I awe in realisation, "Ah yes, thank you-"

Alba stood there and smiled. She said "Not too long now for you to change. You'll be a wolf in a couple of hours-"

I start to growl and snarl. My bones breaking and my jaw feeling like it's being punched repeatedly. I try to scream but all that comes out are growls and roars.

My clothes rip off as I change and I go back to normal. I start to sweat and pant.

"This is the most painful experience ever.." I shiver and roll into a little ball.

Alba comes close and says it's okay. She's human now. Alba is very pretty. She has orange hair, blue eyes and freckles. I let her know and she thanks me but I didn't say anything.

"You spoke to me. This is good news. This is going to be very painful as you experience this. But I promise you it'll be over and you will feel great. Trust me."

I look at her and I felt trust. I trusted her and I said "okay."

I hear a voice that is very unforgettable. Lucca...
"I remember my first time but she looks like she's sick and in massive pain... since I was born into this I only felt the massive pain but not symptoms of being sick."

Alba says "yes, well everyone's experience is different."

He turns around to talk to Alba and when he did I run behind a rock. I grunt as I lay there. They both turn around and Lucca asks "Why did you move?"

Before I could reply Alba answers for me, "Oh. you're embarrassing her Lucca."

He tilts his head confused, "what?-" and then he looks over grinning, "You have nothing to be embarrassed about, you're very cute." I blush but he doesn't see... he comes closer to the rock in which I'm hiding behind.

I raise my head so you can only see half my head and I hear gasping. I turn around and see them both with smiles. Lucca stops in his tracks and says "I see your ears came in."

i say, "huh?"

Alba comes close as she starts snapping her fingers into both my ears. I can feel them moving and i just sit there in awe moving them around.

Alba says, "You have to stand on all fours so that this can be over much faster."

i respond, "i c-can't, it hurts too much."

Alba commands in a strong tone, "I wasn't asking Amber. On all fours, now."

I gulp and look over at Lucca. I look at Alba with an embarrassed face and she turns around and looks at Lucca.

"Lucca, leave." she glares at him.

He nods and walks away. I kind of sit there and look at her and ask, "How'd you do that? He actually listened to you..."

Alba smiles and says, "It's called dominance. I've been around for a very long time and he respects me and sees me as an elder. That's the way it should be. But for now you have to turn and worry about that later."

I stand on all fours and she explains how this is all going to go. "You will be in a lot of pain but you have to make it. Don't fight it, let it flow." She trails two fingers down my spine and she pushes down on a pressure point. The second she did she backed up.

I roar and growl and i can feel this massive pain all over my body. My bones breaking and taking a new form. My nose and face stretching outwards and-

"That must've hurt a lot Nonna(grandmother), i can't imagine it." Jonah comments. Fauna rolls her eyes, "Jonah! Why do you interrupt in the most interesting parts?!" He ignores her.

I respond, "It did hurt but it was worth it. For a family, of course i'd do anything. I was young and it seemed like a risk i was willing to take. And i don't regret it for a second." They all smile at me.

Okay back to it-

it was something i'd never felt before. But in a couple of minutes.. All the pain was gone...

I opened my eyes and everything looked extraordinary. It was red but everything had such life.. I looked down at my paws. I start to jump around and bark at Alba. She turned and spoke to me.

"You did it Amber." She said smiling at me.

I responded "Thank you Alba."

I trot over to the opening of the cave, I look out, i shut my eyes and it was almost as if i was everywhere. I could see my town and the people walking all around but i wasn't there... I smile at Alba but someone else was there. Lucca.... He was a wolf and smiled at me and ran past me really fast. I ran after him and I've never felt more free and happy as i did at that moment..

We stopped to catch our breath and I just threw myself to the ground and got right back up. We stared at each other's eyes for a while and in that moment, I could see the good in him. He wasn't all cocky and egotistical. He was soft and I could see it....
