It's a regular monday in December. It's snowing but I still must go to school. One year, Jess, only one year left to finish your A-levels, than you'll be free. I've lived in London for about 2 years now along with my brother Evan, his girlfriend Alice and my best friend Deirdre, who's Irish. I was raised in Canterbury. But I've always wanted to live in London. I love the city to bits. Even though our country is so rainy. I'm mostly optimistic, just not at school. People think I'm arrogant because I don't speak much. Fact is, I'm having a really tough life. I've been through A LOT. You could write a book about that.
Firstly, my parents split up when I was 11. Second, my mum got in a depression when I was only 13, but she's doing much better now. I got bullied a lot and even tried to commit suicide at the age of fifteen and now I heard one of my classmates is a lesbian and she's in love with me. I'm not against homosexuality. It's just that I'm straight and like really into guys. And I don't want to hurt her. I wish I knew how to tell her without upsetting her. "Jess, are you up?". Evan's now in the kitchen in his robe. "Why aren't you dressed?"."I have got a day off today. Shouldn't you be on your way to school already?".
So 5 minutes later we're in his blue Citroen, driving to school. Alice is still asleep because she's taken 3 days off work. She studied for vetenarian. I find that really cool and I really admire her. "So, d'you have much work to do?". "I don't know". "Call me when you're done, olay? I'll pick you up and we'll go Christmasshopping". "All togheter?". "Something wrong with that?". "No, goodbye". "Later, sis".
7 hours later
"Should we really go togheter?". My brother looks at me annoyed. "Are you embarrased of us?". "No, I was just thinking, maybe I could do it, alone?". "Jess, you're too young". "What are you on about? I'm eighteen!". "D'you know how many pervs there are here? Drugdealers? Junks? You're not going shopping alone". "When can I? When I'm 81?". "I guess". I step out of the car and bang the door. "JESSICA, THAT'S A BRAND NEW CAR!". "WHO EXACTLY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? MY DAD?!". "Don't scream at me, young lady. You're eighteen, act like it. Now you're screaming at me like a fifteen-year-old". "YOU'RE 26, YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT I DO". "You live under my roof and under my rules". "I'm an adult, Evan. And I'm shopping alone, sorry Alice, have fun".
