Chapter 08

As the memory haunts me, I couldn't help but to feel a specter of shame in myself. That night, I was lost in a fog of intoxication that I surrendered to a stranger's touch. Though guilt nibbles at me, I find myself drawn back to the memory.

I wrestle with that thought, realizing he is no stranger because I know exactly who he is.

Ang lalaking iyon ay ang parehong lalaki na nag-iisang tumutuliro sa batang puso't-isipan ko. Hindi ko akalain na ang aming mga kwento ay magsisimula at magtatapos sa bansang Italy, ang lugar kung saan nagsimula ang aking lihim na paghanga sa kanya labing-dalawang taon na ang nakalipas.

Natigil ako sa pagbabalik-tanaw ng biglang tumunog ang alarm ng aking iPhone. Ilang minuto na lang at darating na ang kliyente ko. Kailangan ko nang mag-ayos ng aking sarili.

I cleansed my face again and applied moisturizer. Since my skin tone is light, I just wear light makeup on my face. I used a tiny bit of BB Cream and concealer to cover up my eye bags, along with some bronzer and highlighter, sheer eye shadow, and lip tint to enhance my lips. I had the ideal set of brows on fleek, so I don't need to draw any lines with them. I paired the white stiletto with the pastel floral knee-length dress that I had picked out.

Hindi ko na dapat iniisip ang bagay na iyon lalo pa na masyado nang komplikado ang bawat pangyayari sa paligid namin. Hindi rin puwedeng pangarapin ko pa ulit siya dahil alam kong may tao akong labis na masasaktan.

Nang makita ang aking kabuuan sa salamin ay agad na rin akong lumabas at saktong pagkatok ni Kelly sa pinto.

"Ma'am, your client is here now," bungad niya sa akin.

"Okay. Let them in." I said, smiling.

Anticipation filled me as I prepared to meet my new client and discuss the exciting new project. I held a deep breath and walked towards the wide glass wall behind my table.

Mula sa kinatatayuan ay nakikita ko ang kabuuan ng siyudad. Mga nagtataasang gusali at tila langgam na mga sasakyan sa kalsada.

Maaliwalas ang panahon at masyadong masaya ang sikat ng araw. Tila isang pahiwatig na ang araw na ito ay positibo at may magandang balita na dala.

"Buona giornata a lei, signora Montreal." {Good day to you Ms. Montreal.}

I turned slowly and glanced in the direction where the voice was coming from. I smiled at the man who was standing there, who appeared to be in his mid-30s. He is slightly taller than myself, with a light olive skin tone and athletic physique. His entirety shows the features of a typical Italian businessman.

He was wearing a standard black suit with an inner long-sleeved white polo shirt. I can see that he has an insignia pin on the upper right side of his black coat but it's not familiar to me. In addition, he carries an iPad, and his fragrance is perfectly balanced and not overpowering.

"Good morning, it's a pleasure to finally meet you Sir. Benvenuti nelle Philippines, benvenuti all'Istituto Solstice Design!" {Welcome to the Philippines, welcome to Solstice Design Institute!} I greeted him.

Tumango naman ito sa akin. Ilang saglit lang ay napatingin ito sa likuran na tila ba may hinihintay. Ngunit lumingon rin naman siya sa akin para ngumiti.

"By the way Sir, may I know your name and what company you came from?" I get that opportunity to ask him.

Dahil nga hindi nito binigay kay Kelly ang pangalan niya at ng kompanya niya kaya mas mabuting ako na mismo ang magtanong at para na rin mas ma-address ko siya ng tama.
